Prof. Pan Yunhe, Executive Vice-President of Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) led a delegation from CAE to the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) for the "Academicians Visitorship Programme" on 26 September 2008. Members of the delegation included Prof. Liu Renhuai, Academician of CAE and former President of Jinan University; Prof. Qian Yi, Academician of CAE and Professor of Tsinghua University; Prof. Li Ning, Academician of CAE and Professor of China Agricultural University; Prof. Sun Dongchuan of Jinan University; Mr. Kang Jincheng, Deputy Director-General, Bureau of International Cooperation, CAE; Mr. Song Dexiong of the Office of General Administration, CAE; and Mr. Tian Qi, Director, Bureau of International Cooperation, CAE. The delegation met with Prof. Lawrence J. Lau, Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kenneth Young, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Xu Yangsheng, Associate-Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Henry Wong, Chairman of the Research Committee, and relevant faculty members of CUHK.
The academicians delivered public lectures on Lecture Series by Academicians during the visit. The lectures, aiming to enhance scholarly learning and to stimulate the intellectual climate of the university, were well-received by more than 200 staff and students. The highlight of the talks was Prof. Pan's speech on the topic of cultivating innovative talents of engineering on the mainland. The delegation visited the Faculty of Engineering, research facilities of the Environmental Science Programme, and the State Key Laboratory of Agrobiotechnology (CUHK). The four CAE Academicians met with the respective CUHK academics for exchanging ideas on their research areas and exploring the possibility of future collaboration.
