President of Chinese Academy of Sciences Visits CUHK

 

Prof. Bai Chunli, President of Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) visited The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) on 23 November 2012. The aim of this visit was to receive updates of CUHK, renew the collaboration agreement between the two parties and to enhance mutual understanding for sustainable partnership development.

 

The delegation was warmly received by Prof. Joseph Sung, Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Benjamin Wah, Provost; Prof. Jack Cheng, Pro-Vice-Chancellor; Prof. Henry Wong, Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Dean of Science; Prof. Xie Zuowei, Associate Dean of Science and Associate Director of State Key laboratory of Synthetic Chemistry; Prof. Tony Shing, Chairman of the Department of Chemistry; Prof. K. P. Fung, Director of Institute of Chinese Medicine and Deputy Director of State Key Laboratory of Phytochemistry and Plant Resources in West China (CUHK); Prof. Nelson Tang, Associate Director of CAS Kunming Institute of Zoology-CUHK Joint Laboratory of Bio-resources and Molecular Research of Common Diseases; Prof. Pei Duanqin, Co-Director of CUHK-CAS Guangzhou Institutes of Biomedicine and Health Joint Research Laboratory on Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine; Prof. Lin Ge, Director of CUHK-CAS Joint Research Laboratory for Promoting Globalization of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Prof. Xu, Jianbin of Department of Electronic Engineering and Prof. Xiao Xudong of the Department of Physics.

 

CUHK representatives gave introduction to Prof. Bai about the recent development of the University and its research achievements. Brief discussion on the progress of the joint laboratories between CUHK and CAS were held. At the meeting, the Memorandum of Understanding for Academic Exchange and Collaborations between CUHK and CAS was renewed. The delegation next paid visit to the Faculties of Engineering and Science for a closer look of nano research projects and meeting with relevant members and students for academic exchange.

 

CAS is one of the close partners of CUHK. There have been a variety of ongoing projects between the two parties and the visit strengthened the partnership and fostered long-term development in research and academic exchange.

Visit of President of Shenzhen University (20/11/2012)

 

A delegation led by Prof. Li Qingquan, President of Shenzhen University visited CUHK on 20 November 2012 to explore collaboration opportunities between two universities.

 

Meetings were held with Prof. Joseph Sung, Vice-Chancellor; Prof. Jack Cheng, Pro-Vice-Chancellor; Prof. Xu Yangsheng, Pro-Vice-Chancellor; Prof. Gordon Cheung, Associate-Pro-Vice-Chancellor; Prof. Kenneth Young, Master of C.W. Chu College; Prof. Sean Tang, Associate Dean of Engineering; Prof. Liu Pak Wai, Professor of Economics, Department of Economics; Prof. Lin Hui, Director of Institute of Space and Earth Information Science; Ms. Heronie Mok, Director of Shenzhen Development Office; and Ms. Wing Wong, Director of Academic Links (China).

 

During the meetings, representatives of both sides exchanged ideas on possible collaborations. The delegates also learnt about the planning and development of CUHK (Shenzhen) and discussed the potential collaborative areas. The delegation next visited the Faculty of Engineering and Institute of Space and Earth Information Science to learn about their recent research projects.   The visit strengthened the relationship between Shenzhen University and CUHK, and helped promote academic collaboration.

Visit of Vice-President of Xi'an Jiaotong University

 

Prof. Li Wei, Vice-President of Xi'an Jiaotong University led a 6-member delegation to visit CUHK on 12 November 2012. The delegation met with Prof. Jack Cheng, Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Mrs. Amelia Wong, Senior Assistant Secretary of University Secretary's Office to exchange ideas on university administration management.

Visit of Vice-President of Shanghai Jiao Tong University

 

Prof. Xu Fei, Vice-President of Shanghai Jiao Tong University led a delegation to visit CUHK on 14 November 2012. The delegation met with Prof. Hau Kit-tai, Pro-Vice-Chancellor; Prof. Leung Mei-yee, Director of University General Education and Dr. Wong Wing-hung, Associate Director of University General Education to understand the development of general education in the University.

Visit of Vice-President of National University of Defense Technology

 

A 6-member delegation led by Prof. Deng Xiaogang, Vice-President of National University of Defense and Technology visited CUHK on 23 November 2012 to learn about the management structure and research development of CUHK. The delegation met with Prof. Jack Cheng, Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Prof. Xia Keqing, Chairman of the Department of Physics.  The delegates visited Fluid Mechanics Laboratory and Networked Sensors and Robotics Laboratory to have updates on the research projects. The visit nurtured friendship and established links between the two universities.

Visit of Vice-President of Shanghai Normal University

 

Prof. Ke Qingfei, Vice-President of Shanghai Normal University visited CUHK on 29 November 2012 and met with CUHK representatives including Prof. Jack Cheng, Pro-Vice-Chancellor; Ms. Wing Wong, Director of Academic Links (China); Ms. Janet Chow, Director of Institutional Advancement; and Ms. Connie Au, Director of Alumni Affairs to understand CUHK's institutional advancement strategies and alumni affairs development. Through the visit, the delegation obtained more knowledge of the University and established relationship for further collaboration.
