Outgoing Visit to Sun Yat-sen University
Prof. Joseph Sung, Mok Hing Yiu Professor of Medicine and former Vice-Chancellor of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) visited the Sun Yat-Sen University (SYSU) on 1 March. During the visit, he met with Prof. Luo Jun, President of SYSU, to exchange views on future collaboration under the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau University Alliance (GHKMUA).
Both CUHK and SYSU are the initiating units of the GHKMUA. At the meeting, Prof. Sung discussed with Professor Luo and representatives from SYSU on the cooperation in environmental and climate change, as well as human health and wellbeing, taking the geographical and resource advantage of the alliance. Both sides hope to bring together other alliance member institutes to embark on impactful resource sharing. Discussion was also held to strengthen collaboration in clinical medicine and establish a clinical medicine centre at national level under GHKMUA.
Established in November 2016 and initiated by CUHK together with SYSU and the University of Macau (UM), the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau University Alliance is a higher education platform which aspires to extend the current efforts of elite universities in promoting academic cooperation in the three regions. The partnership fosters collaboration in various areas including scientific research, student interflow, cultural and innovation exchange as well as policy study. Members of the Alliance now include 12 universities from the Guangdong Province, 9 universities from Hong Kong, and 7 institutions from Macau.

Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education in Greater Bay Area Forum 2018
Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau University Innovation and Entrepreneurship Alliance organized the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education in Greater Bay Area Forum in South China University of Technology on 23-24 March. Meeting of the 4th " 'Internet+' University Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition China" was also held during the event. The activities aimed at bolstering experience sharing and collaboration in innovation and entrepreneurship education among the institutions in the three regions. Prof. Wong Kam Fai, Associate Dean (External Affairs) of Engineering and Director of the Centre for Innovation and Technology attended the Forum on behalf of the University.
Themed "Innovation and Entrepreneurship: Power of Growth", the forum invited accomplished scholars and veterans in innovation and entrepreneurship education to the meeting. They included representatives from the Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation [HSBC] and DJI-Innovations. Prof. Wong gave report and shared with participants the latest scientific research and knowledge transfer development of the University during the forum. Discussions on devising policies to enhance joint project developments in the Greater Bay Area were held to facilitate synergetic development, deepening collaboration among the industry, the academia and the research sector.
CUHK has been committed to promoting an innovative culture on campus, stimulating creativity and encouraging students to apply their academic and professional knowledge to seek innovation and entrepreneurship. The University established the Centre for Entrepreneurship, the Office of Research and Knowledge Transfer Services and the Centre for Innovation and Technology to stimulate entrepreneurial ideas among teachers and students, and foster technology transfer to society. A pioneering, university-wide Minor Programme in Entrepreneurship and Innovation (EPIN) was launched in the 2017-18 academic year. As the first of its kind in Hong Kong, EPIN is open to all undergraduate students from different faculties and departments. This visit strengthened the linkages between universities in Greater Bay Area, enhancing cooperation and development of innovation and entrepreneurship education with the building of effective platform.
