Prof. Joseph Sung, Vice-Chancellor of the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), led a 9-member delegation to Beijing from 27 to 29 January 2013 to strengthen academic linkage and explore new areas of further collaboration.
The delegation comprised VC Prof. Joseph Sung; Pro-Vice-Chancellors Prof. Ching Pak Chung and Prof. Xu Yangsheng; Prof. Huang Jie, Chairman of the Department of Mechanical and Automation Engineering; Prof. Helen Meng, Chairman of the Department of Systems Engineering and Engineering Management; Prof. John Lui of the Department of Computer Science & Engineering etc.
The delegation visited Ministry of Education (MOE); Academy of Mathematics and Systems Science (AMSS) and National Center for Mathematics and Interdisciplinary Sciences (NCMIS), Chinese Academy of Sciences; Institute for Interdisciplinary Information Sciences in Tsinghua University; and Microsoft Research Asia. During the visit, CUHK delegates met with Prof. Hao Ping, Vice-Minister of Education; Prof. Guo Lei, Director of NCMIS; Prof. Wang Yuefei, Vice-President of AMSS; Prof. Andrew Yao, Director of Tsinghua-MIT-CUHK Research Center for Theoretical Computer Science; and Prof. Hsiao-Wuen Hon, General Managing Director of Microsoft Research Asia. In Microsoft Research Asia, Prof. Sung delivered a lecture which attracted more than 100 scholars to attend.
During the meetings with government officials and scholars, the delegation received updates on the latest developments and discussed collaboration directions and issues on various academic strengths. This visit consolidated existing collaborative efforts of CUHK and enhanced ties for future cooperation.
