Simulation of COP 24 Summit on Climate Change: Saturday, November 10, 10am - 5:30pm, PwC, 21/F, Edinburgh Tower, Landmark in Central

The Environment and Conservation Fund (ECF) has supported the Hong Kong America Center to conduct a series of five simulations over two years to deepen awareness among university students of the policy issues of climate change worldwide and their specific relevance to Hong Kong and its future.

“The COP” will be a simulation for university students in HK of UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). Our partner on the COP simulation is Carbon Care Innolab, a veteran activist which is dedicated to expanding the circle of people active on climate change via social innovation, community engagement and education and policy research. The upcoming UNFCCC will be held in Poland in December, 2018. The challenge for this COP will be how to fulfill the nationally determined commitments (NDCs) made by over 150 countries at the Paris Accord in COP 21 in December 2015.

Our COP simulation will have 12 country teams of student delegates negotiating new NDCs that reflect more aggressive targets for carbon reduction and adaptation in their nations. Each country team will have roles representing interests of Energy, Business and NGO sectors.

The COP 24 simulation is on Saturday November 10. The venue will be in the elegant offices of the global consultancy, PwC, 22/F, Edinburgh Tower, Landmark in Central. The twelve country teams are: Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, EU, India, Indonesia, Japan, Russia, South Africa, South Korea, and USA. Welcome to register here. Places are limited. First come, first served. See you in the COP!
