The Spirit of Jane Jacobs in Hong Kong: Community Participation + Urban Design Date: Saturday, March 24, 2018 from 9AM to 5PM Venue: HK Trade Development Council in Wanchai (SME Centre) Organized by the Hong Kong America Center With Support from Leadership Inc, Knowledge Dialogues, Common Core@HKU, MaD Asia, and the US Consulate in Hong Kong and Macau __________________________________________________________________ A new documentary film, Citizen Jane, tells the story of how Jane Jacobs organized neighborhoods in New York to stop Robert Moses and the juggernaut of expressway building and “slum clearance” and save urban communities in Manhattan. Her work brought new appreciation for people-centered urban design, which has transformed urban development in America. We welcome students and community activists who are concerned about the life of streets and neighborhoods in our city to come together on Saturday March 24 for a highly participatory program about community integrity in high density Hong Kong. The venue is the Trade Development Council in Wanchai. The program is free and yields a certificate of completion.
