當幼兒牙牙學語，可以開始說出幾個單字的時候，他所明白卻仍未會說的詞彙遠超於所會說的。隨著年齡的增長，兒童透過家庭、學校和四周環境而認識的詞彙更會急劇增加。測驗兒童明白多少詞彙，可以反映出他的認知能力和部分的語言能力。

「香港粵語詞彙理解測驗」(HKCRVT) 是香港第一個評估二至六歲兒童詞彙理解能力的量表。香港特別行政區政府衛生署的言語治療師於1992年至1994年間，進行香港兒童對粵語詞彙理解的資料搜集、實地測驗和資料分析，用以完成本測驗和寫成使用手冊。由於測驗過程簡單，兒童只須指出正確的圖畫而不用說話，對一些年幼或表達能力較弱的孩子來說，這是很合適的測驗方式。

注意事項

1.「香港粵語詞彙理解測驗」只供能操流利粵語的合資格言語治療師使用。

2. 本測驗是用作評估二至六歲兒童粵語詞彙的理解能力。詞彙理解只是語言能力的其中一項，所以本測驗結果並不可以顯示兒童的全面語言能力。測驗員應按需要而使用其他的語言測驗來分析兒童的語言能力。

3. 本測驗只適用於香港以粵語為母語的兒童。在香港以外使用粵語的地區，由於所用詞彙可能有所不同，本測驗未必適合使用。

4. 本測驗不可於六個月內重覆使用。

5. 日常教導兒童語言時，絕對不可用本測驗的圖畫作為教導內容。

6. 測驗員必須嚴格遵守測驗規則。
香港中文大學人類傳意科學研究所為「香港粵語詞彙理解測驗」（HKCRVT）之發行機構，並為該測驗之唯一授權銷售單位。
