Abstract

Augustine, a central figure in Patristic philosophy, synthesizes the rational heritage of ancient Greek philosophy with the theological framework of Christianity within his theory of happiness, exemplifying the distinctive intellectual synthesis arising from the interplay of these two traditions. Within this context, what characterizes the unique dimensions of Augustine’s conception of happiness? This lecture will demonstrate that Augustine’s theory of happiness is fundamentally rooted in a critical engagement with ancient classical philosophical traditions. He posits that true and perfect happiness is eschatological —realizable only in the ultimate fulfillment of the end times. However, even within the temporal confines of earthly existence, individuals are called to undertake a spiritual pilgrimage guided by the theological virtues of faith, hope, and love, thereby establishing the necessary groundwork for the attainment of ultimate beatitude.

奥古斯丁作為教父哲學的重要代表，其幸福理論融合了古希臘哲學的理性傳統與基督教的信仰傳統，展現了兩個文明交融的獨特智慧。那麼，在這一背景下，奥古斯丁的幸福理論究竟具有怎樣的特點？本講座將揭示，奥古斯丁的幸福論建立在對古代學派批評的基礎之上，他強調人只有在末世才能實現完滿的幸福。然而，即便如此，人們依然可以在塵世中憑藉信、望、愛，完成此生的精神之旅，為最終的幸福奠定基礎。
