Abstract:
What is life like for a national hero? Explore the intricate web of experiences that define their existence. How do ordinary people select, imagine, and craft their own national heroes through commemorative rituals and charitable volunteering? In what ways does nationalism intertwine with masculinity in the construction of heroes in contemporary China? Join Professor Jacqueline Zhenru Lin in an intellectually stimulating discussion covering these and other thought-provoking topics from her latest book. Through a feminist lens, this ethnography delves into the cross-cultural significance of exemplary men in shaping masculinities.
