Scope of Services
Individual counselling service is provided by a professional team of WACC counsellors with training background in clinical psychology, social work and/or counselling. The aims of the counselling service are:
• To facilitate students' adjustment to university life;
• To enable students to cope with problems more effectively; and
• To enhance students' personal growth and development.
Counselling service covers areas such as psychological adjustment, developmental issues, self-understanding, family concerns, interpersonal relationships, and study stress, etc.
Terms and Conditions
Appointments for initial assessment by counsellors can be arranged either by the student in person or by referral from CUHK staff (Referrer).
Before making a referral, the Referrer should discuss and notify the student of his/her intention and reason(s) for the referral. The student should be helped to understand that counselling service is voluntary and that it is being recommended for promoting his/her psychological well-being and personal growth.
Counselling service should not be made compulsory or imposed on a student as part of a disciplinary action or administrative requirement. It enables the development of a trusting relationship between the student and counsellor which is essential for favourable therapeutic outcomes.
The Referrer will receive an acknowledgement email from WACC within 3 working days after submitting a completed referral form.
The initial assessment session will be arranged within 2-3 weeks, subject to the student's availability. An earlier appointment can be arranged as far as possible for more urgent cases.
After the initial assessment session, the Referrer will receive an initial reply from WACC regarding the arrangements for follow-up counselling support and/or further courses of action.
The personal data collected will be used by WACC in accordance with the requirements of the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance of Hong Kong.
The student’s personal information is kept confidential and will not be disclosed to third parties, except under the following circumstances:
o If we obtain informed consent from the student;
o If we believe that the student or others may be at serious risk of harm, we may need to disclose information about him/her to protect whoever is at risk, and
o If we are required by law to disclose the student’s personal information.
By submitting this form, the Referrer is agreeing and understanding the Scope of Services and Terms and Conditions.
