Students participating in voluntary services can learn to care about others while at the same time benefiting themselves. More than 30 Higher Diploma students participated in service trips to Sichuan and Dongguan in January and March respectively. "Though living conditions in Hong Kong are much better than the Mainland, children there are far happier than kids in Hong Kong. We should be contented with what we have and seize every opportunity to learn and serve," a student shared.

CUSCS offers Certified Global Career Development Facilitator Programme (GCDF) |
CUSCS proudly announces that it owns the exclusive training rights to the Certified Global Career Development Facilitator Programme (GCDF) in Hong Kong. This programme, authorised by the Center for Credentialing and Education (CCE) of the National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC) through the Hwa Kang Xing Ye Foundation, is the first programme in Hong Kong that awards this globally certified qualification. Since 1997, GCDF has extended its reach from the United States to 14 countries and regions including Canada, Germany, Greece, Bulgaria, Romania, New Zealand, Japan, Korea, Mainland China and Taiwan.

New programmes on offer |
CUSCS will offer a brand new "Diploma Programme in Foundation Studies" in 2014-15. Students who score at least 6 points in the best 5 subjects in HKDSE may enrol in the programme. This programme will help student build a solid foundation in language, communication and college life skills. Students who successfully complete the programme can articulate to the Higher Diploma Programmes offered by the School. In 2014-15, CUSCS will offer a total of 32 Higher Diploma Programmes, among which "Visual Merchandising", "International Business", "English Studies" and "Social Work" are new programmes.

Information Talks on Higher Diploma benefits secondary students and parents |
CUSCS held Information Days on 15 February and 8 March at Tsimshatsui East Ocean Learning Centre and Central Learning Centre respectively. Information talks on Higher Diploma Programmes and academic consultation for secondary students and their parents were held during the Information Days. The upcoming Information Day will be held on 10 May at Tseung Kwan O Learning Centre. Please mark your diary. More Information Days will be held in June and July. Visit cuscshd.hk for more details.

CUSCS co-organises a mobile app competition for secondary school students |
CUSCS, The Hong Kong Computer Society and Hong Kong Joint School Electronics and Computer Society jointly organise "The Inter-school Mobile Application Design Contest" for secondary school students. CUSCS lecturers Mr. Louis Lam and Mr. Matthew Chick conducted a training session for 200 students from more than 70 secondary schools on 15 March at the Lecture Theatre, William M.W. Mong Engineering Building, CUHK.

Talks by prominent guests to inspire students |
CUSCS often invites prominent guests to conduct talks for students. Their sharing of life experience is no doubt highly beneficial to our young students. Mr. Bruce Lui, Visiting Senior Lecturer of Department of Journalism, HKBU, gave a talk on "A 'Cold Winter' for Hong Kong Media" on 28 February. Hon. Charles Mok, Legislative Council Member, shared his view on the development of Information Technology industry in Hong Kong on 25 March.

Agreement signing with La Trobe University |
Dr. Ella Chan, Director of the School, visited La Trobe University, Australia in March and signed the Addendum of the Bachelor of Nursing Programme with Dr. Julie Jackson, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Educational Partnerships and Quality) of La Trobe University, Australia to mark the new curriculum of the 17th intake to be run in September 2014 in Hong Kong. The part-time undergraduate degree programme has been running since 1992. Courses to be taken in the Programme will increase from six to eight, to be in line with the curriculum in Australia.

Five design students snatch 7 awards in the 14th Footwear Design Competition Hong Kong |
Five students of Higher Diploma Programme in Fashion Design and Business, and Higher Diploma Programme in Commercial Design won seven awards in the 14th Footwear Design Competition including the Overall Champion, Gold and Bronze Awards in various categories.

Fashion design student wins a study trip to Copenhagen, Demark |
Li Wai-ting, a student of Higher Diploma Programme in Fashion Design and Business, was named Winner of the Fur Combination Category in the Hong Kong Fur Design Competition 2014. Besides the HK $8,000 scholarship, she was awarded a 1-week study trip to Kopenhagen Studio, a fur design company in Copenhagen, Demark, and a 4-day trip in one of fashion capitals in Europe. Wai-ting said she was overwhelmed with joy in winning the title. She plans to visit art museums and fashion brands in Paris, France after the study trip.

THM student wins "The Club Managers' Association of Hong Kong (CMA) Scholarship" |
Sonia Cheung, a student of Higher Diploma Programme in Tourism and Hospitality Management, completed her 3-month internship with the Pacific Club last summer. With her outstanding performance during the internship, Sonia was recommended to participate in "The Club Managers' Association of Hong Kong (CMA) Scholarship Programme" and won the scholarship of HK$ 25,000. Sonia regarded her nomination as tremendously encouraging, and commented that the process itself was more important than the result. "During my preparation for the presentation – where there was stiff competition from other candidates for the scholarship – my lecturers gave me enormous support and I've learnt a lot," said Sonia.

The "Serve with a Purpose" Programme offered by the School in collaboration with St. James' Settlement and VISA Hong Kong concluded with a blast. The Closing Ceremony was held on 30 March.

Multimedia students display artworks at MTR stations |
Two groups of students from Higher Diploma Programme in Multimedia and Creative Advertising displayed their artworks at Central and Tseung Kwan O MTR Stations in January and February respectively. The theme for Central MTR Station exhibition was "Hong Kong Scenes" while the display in Tseung Kwan O Station was "Self Identity".
