Creative Media Development Centre
 We are delighted to announce that our School has received a grant from the Education Bureau's Quality Enhancement Grant Scheme to set up the Creative Media Development Centre (CMDC). The Centre, comprising an enhanced video production studio, a photography studio, a 2D/3D studio, an audio studio and a render farm, provides a professional environment for sub-degree and top-up degree students to develop their creative talents and innovation capabilities. The Centre will be in operation once the renovation works are finished.
A New Talent in Wedding Gown Design

 In July, Tsang Nga Hei, a student of the Higher Diploma Programme in Fashion Design and Product Development, took home the 1st runner-up award in the "Wedding Gown Design Competition" co-organised by Hong Kong Plaza in China and "GP Harmonie", a renowned wedding company in Hong Kong. This was Tsang's second award in fashion design as she was also the 2nd runner-up in the category of "Evening Gown & Qi Pao Designs" in the Asian Wedding Arts & Design Competition last year. 
World Korean Speech Contest
Lee Chin Cheung won the Merit Award at the World Korean Speech Contest
 Lee Chin Cheung, a part-time student who has been studying Korean at the School since 2003, won the Merit Award at the World Korean Speech Contest held in South Korea on 30 July. This is his second award in a year, after receiving the 3rd runner-up in the Korean Speech Contest held by our School in 2010.
JCI (Junior Chamber International) Competition

 Four Higher Diploma students won the 1st runner-up award in "JCI Shadow Entrepreneur Programme" held on 17 September. The winning team included Shiu Fu Cheong, Joson, a student of the Higher Diploma Programme in Business and Service Management, and Chan Yin Ling, Ho Yuen Kwan and Cheung Mei Kwan, students of the Higher Diploma Programme in Business and Corporate Administration. Joson shared the group's excitement with us and said they had learnt a lot from the entrepreneur they interviewed. One of their inspirations is: Be humble at all times!
Mobile Application Design Contest
 To enhance creativity and innovativeness among youngsters and to promote their interests in mobile application development, the School launched the "MyCUSCS Mobile App Design Contest" in September, with Samsung Electronics Hong Kong being the supporting organisation.  
Seminar Series for Financial Practitioners
 The "Seminar Series for Financial Practitioners", co-organised by the School and the Hong Kong Financial Services Professionals Association, presents a series of public lectures. Mr Paul Pong, Managing Director of Pegasus Financial Services Ltd., will deliver a talk on "Asset Allocation and Risk Diversification". Dr Kenny Tang, General Manager of the Securities Business Division of AMTD Financial Planning Ltd., will conduct a seminar titled "Fund Management – Operation and Control". Mr Louie Shum, Managing Director of Sincere Securities Ltd., will give a talk entitled "Global Financial Markets - Analysis and Strategy".

Programme for the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of Guangdong
Training programme for the Hong Kong and Macau Affairs Office of Guangdong
 Twenty senior administration staff from the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of Guangdong attended a training programme "廣東省港澳辦港澳工作幹部香港培訓班" from 14 to 27 September. We were privileged to have senior management members of the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of Guangdong as officiating guests at the Opening Ceremony, including Mr Lu Xingzhou, Deputy Director General, and Ms Liu Wei, Director of the Secretary (Personnel) Division. Another guest of honour included Prof Henry Wong, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of CUHK. At the Closing Ceremony, Mr Tan Juntie, Deputy Secretary General of the People's Government of Guangdong Province and Director General, Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of Guangdong, Prof Jack Cheng, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of CUHK and Ms Wong Wing, Director of Academic Links (China) were the officiating guests.

Chamber Orchestra gave a great performance at Avon Mall in Fanling.
 Following an impressive performance on Open Day, the CUSCS Chamber Orchestra gave another great performance in "Enjoy Reading in North District" (「悅」讀生活在北區) organised by the North District Council on 12 August at Avon Mall in Fanling. The performance was well received – good show!
Warm Welcome to Our New Members
Prof Ho Puay-peng, Chairman of the Advisory Board of Continuing and Professional Studies, CUHK, encouraged our new members to acquire SIM - professional knowledge and Skills, personal Integrity and a creative Mindset to solve problems.
 The Higher Diploma Programme's Inauguration Ceremony and Orientation was held at Sir Run Run Hall, CUHK on 7 September 2011, attended by more than 1,000 new students. Prof Ho Puay-peng, Chairman of the Advisory Board of Continuing and Professional Studies, CUHK, was the officiating guest. He encouraged our new members to acquire SIM - professional knowledge and Skills, personal Integrity and a creative Mindset -- to solve problems. Dr Victor Lee, Director of the School, urged the new entrants to set their goals for the coming 2-3 years and plan how to accomplish them. 
GU Graduation
Ms Leneen Forde AC, Chancellor of GU (Left) officiated at the Graduation Ceremony.
 The School and Griffith University, Australia jointly organised several Top-up Degree Programmes in Hong Kong, namely Bachelor of Design (Visual Communication Design), Bachelor of Business (Hotel Management), Bachelor of Business (Management Major/Human Resource Management Minor) and Bachelor of Business (Marketing). Graduation Ceremony for these programmes was held on 18 September at Sir Run Run Hall, CUHK. Ms Leneen Forde AC, Chancellor of GU and Prof Ian O'Connor, Vice Chancellor and President of GU, officiated at the Graduation Ceremony. Degrees were conferred upon over 200 graduates.
CUSCS Alumni Association News
A friendly soccer match between CUSCS Alumni and CUHK Lee Woo Sing College was successful held on 28 September 2011. If you are interested to join our alumni soccer team, please contact us at alumni@scs.cuhk.edu.hk.
 Our Alumni Association organised various activities in the past months. We successfully hosted the Alumni Sharing and Eloquence Talk "I TOLD YOU!" Workshop and a soccer match with CUHK Lee Woo Sing College. If you enjoy soccer, please don't hesitate to join our alumni soccer team.
Volunteer Recruitment
Our first volunteer service will be the "Qile" Charity Cake Sale on 3-4 December 2011, to raise funds for the Haven of Hope Christian Service’s elderly home-care services. Come join us and share the love and joy!
 CUSCS actively responds to social needs and fosters a caring and harmonious society. Our Alumni Association recently formed an alumni volunteer group with an aim to providing supports to the needy through different types of voluntary services.

 It is a very valuable experience for members of a family to study in the same school. Before her retirement, Lillian Fok was working in a hospital, coping with life and death on a daily basis. Inspired by her son, Simon Li, Lilian began to study art and started feeling the joys in the creative art world.
