Dr. Ella Chan – A lifelong learner
Dr. Ella Chan
 Dr. Ella Chan has been playing different roles throughout her career in education.  She began as an English teacher after graduating from the Department of English at the University of Hong Kong; then she became a lecturer at the College of Education (now HKIed) training English teachers.  After graduating from the Master Programme in Guidance & Counselling at the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), she worked as a student counsellor at the Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU).  She then spent a few years working in the Toronto School Board in Canada.  Upon her returning to Hong Kong, she served as Assistant Professor at the Department of Educational Psychology at CUHK, and later took up the position of Associate Dean and Director at the College of International Education (CIE) at HKBU.  Finally, she lands on CUSCS as our Director in June.
CUSCS Students Snatching 4 Awards in Best Innovation Awards 2012

 Yu Shuk-man, Chan Mei-yan and Kwong Long-kit, students of Higher Diploma in Business and Human Resource Management, and Tang Chun-kwok, student of Higher Diploma in Financial Services, won the Silver Award at the Best Innovation Awards 2012 presented by the School of Professional Education and Executive Development of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Another three teams of higher diploma students won other awards at the competition, including the Ngong Ping 360 Award and two Merit Awards.
64 Students Awarded Scholarships
64 higher diploma students received scholarship from Hong Kong SAR Government under the "Self-financing Post-secondary Scholarship Scheme".
 64 higher diploma students received scholarships from Hong Kong SAR Government under the "Self-financing Post-secondary Scholarship Scheme".  Mr. Michael Suen Ming-yeung, Secretary for Education, officiated at the Presentation Ceremony held on May 11.  50 students were awarded the "Outstanding Performance Scholarship" for their marvelous academic achievements, while 14 received the "Best Progress Award" for their significant academic progress and improvement.

 Results of Hong Kong Advanced Level Examination and Diploma of Secondary Education Examination will soon be released.  To encourage students, CUSCS has unveiled a collection of e-Cards in collaboration with Chocolate Rain, an internationally renowned design brand.  Facebook users can post the e-Card to friends' walls via CUSCS Fan Page.
CUSCS Hosting International Conference on e-Learning

 The School hosted the 7th International Conference on e-Learning (ICEL) on June 21-22 at our Central Learning Centre.  ICEL was organised by Academic Conferences International.  About 100 participants from all over the world attended the conference.  Dr. Gajaraj Dhanarajan and Dr. David Kennedy, experts in the e-Learning field, gave keynote addresses.
Summer Programme for Foreign Students
CUSCS organises a summer programme for 21 foreign students.
 CUSCS organises a summer programme themed "Understanding Contemporary China and Hong Kong" for 21 students from California State University, Sacramento, USA and University of Ontario Institute of Technology, Canada.   The programme covers selected topics of contemporary China and local excursions.  11 higher diploma students serve as ambassadors of Hong Kong.
Parents' Talk 2012 Successfully Concluded

 The School was honoured to have Ms. Barbara Chan Man-yee, the chairlady of Parenting Forum Limited, to be our guest speaker in parents' talk held on June 9.  The audience was deeply inspired by her personal experiences and her sharing on parents' role in child development.
Summer Prospectus is Available
Summer Prospectus is available
 Our Summer Prospectus is now available at over 200 distribution points. In the 2012 Summer term, the School launches tailored IT and Chinese language summer programmes for secondary school students including "Introductory Web Programming Course for Secondary School Students", "Introductory Multimedia Webpage Authoring Course for Secondary School Students", "Putonghua Presentation Training for Teenagers" and "Preparing for HKDSE Chinese Language" etc. Other new award-bearing programmes include "Professional Diploma Programme in Operating Theatre Technology", "Diploma Programme in Business Translation", "Diploma Programme in Bilingual Business Communication", "Advanced Diploma Programme in Financial Services (Legal and Regulatory Studies)" and new general courses include "Product Photography for e-Marketing", "Unveiling Hong Kong's Intangible Heritage", "Fashion Styling and Imaging" and "Practice for Mediation Skills".

 The School participated in the "Information Expo on Multiple Pathways 2012" organised by the Education Bureau on May 12-13 at the Kowloon Bay International Trade & Exhibition Centre. We displayed information about our extensive range of programmes and received overwhelming responses.
Chinese Medicine Talk Held in Toronto
Chinese Medicine Talk
 Collaborating with the School of Continuing Studies, University of Toronto, the School held a talk themed "History of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and Concept of TCM Diagnostics Methods" at St. George Campus of University of Toronto.  Our instructor, Dr. William Cho, was one of the speakers at the talk.  The event was well received and reported in a local newspaper in Toronto.
Fashion Show on Stage
Fashion Show 2012 will be held on July 4.
 The Graduation Fashion Show of Higher Diploma Programme in Fashion Design and Product Development will be held on July 4 at Hong Kong Conference and Exhibition Centre.  Renowned models, including Ms. Zelia Zhong and Ms. Ann Ho will perform in the Show.  Earlier on June 2-4, 41 students of the Programme held a fashion exhibition at the Innovation Centre in Kowloon Tong showcasing their innovative garments and design graphics etc.  Selected collections will be staged at the Graduation Fashion Show.

Advanced Diploma Programme of Fine Arts graduation exhibition
 41 graduates of Advanced Diploma Programme of Fine Arts (Cycle 8 & 9) held their graduation exhibition on April 12-16 at the Hong Kong Central Library.  Dr. Chan Shui-kin, Associate Director of the School, officiated at the opening ceremony.

 CUSCS Running Society began the first class of the Advance Running Training Workshop series on May 12 and finished with a blast on June 16 with the support of a group of enthusiastic alumni who are running advocates.  IT lover Benny Chan started an IT company at the Science Park with a few of his classmates from University a year after finishing their undergraduate studies.  However, he soon realised that his lack of sales and marketing knowledge created a lot of challenges being an entrepreneur.  He therefore opted for CUSCS' Professional Diploma Programme in Marketing to lead his business onto the road of success.
