Managing Challenging Workplace

"To be joyfully at work" is the workplace environment of our dreams.

In order to consummate the workplace environment in CUHK, the "Positive Workplace and Staff Development Committee" (the "Committee") was officially set up in October 2013 (following a re-constitution of the "Staff Training and Development Committee").  The Committee promotes positive communication and launches training programmes to build up mutual trust and understanding among staff members.

Executive Orientation Programme (EOP) 2014
Executive Orientation Programme (EOP) is the longest staff training programme ever recorded in the history of our University. It still runs annually for our newly appointed middle-level administrators aiming to enhance their knowledge of our institutional structure and culture on the one hand, and to provide a networking opportunity among colleagues from different departments/units on the other. From 11 April to 30 May 2014, 101 new administrators participated in a series of EOP workshops and seminars. Let's have a glance at the highlights of this year's programme.

I remember when I was studying in lower primary school, my mother took me on an outing arranged by her workplace. When the tour coach drove past CUHK, I saw the symbol of the University for the first time ─ "The Four Pillars". To express my childish wish I said, "I will study here in future!" In this manner a childish thought initiated my relationship with CUHK.

Campus pleasure to remember
Happy Recipe:Team Cooking Workshop

After being put on several rounds of waiting list for over a year, I was still unable to participate in the "Happy Recipe: Team Cooking Workshop". I was beginning to feel somewhat a sense of loss. This early March, however, a notification from the Personnel Office (Staff Training and Development) finally arrived, informing me that I had "hit the jackpot" and inviting me to participate in the workshop. I became both excited and nervous, waiting passionately for the day to come.

The Art of Communication

Effective communication is concerned not only with the transmission of messages but also the impact of these messages on the person receiving them.  In general, people will comply with messages that they consider as friendly and constructive, and reject those that they consider malicious and offensive.  How we present comments to our colleagues, therefore, determines how far these comments will be accepted and followed.
