18th World Korean Speech Contest |
Tse Sze-wai, a student of Higher Diploma Programme in Applied Korean Language, won a merit award in the 18th World Korean Speech Contest held in Vietnam in July. Sze-wai was the winner in the "Speech" category of the 8th Korean Speech Contest held by CUSCS and represented Hong Kong as one of the finalists in the global contest in Vietnam.

Higher Diploma Programmes Inauguration Ceremony and Orientation 2013 |
The Higher Diploma Programmes Inauguration Ceremony and Orientation was held at the Sir Run Run Shaw Hall, CUHK, on 4 September. Prof. Joseph Sung, Vice-Chancellor of CUHK, and Dr. Ella Chan, Director of the School, officiated at the ceremony. In the orientation session, Dr. Peter Cheung, Chief Executive Officer of Music Man Productions Limited, shared his experience in lifelong education.

Griffith University Graduation Ceremony and Orientation |
The School and Griffith University, Australia, jointly organise several Top-up Undergraduate Degree Programmes in Hong Kong, namely Bachelor of Business (Hotel Management), Bachelor of Business (Event Management), Bachelor of Business (Management), Bachelor of Business (Marketing) and Bachelor of Design (Visual Communication Design). The Graduation Ceremony was held on 15 September at the Sir Run Run Shaw Hall, CUHK. Ms. Leneen Forde AC, Chancellor of Griffith University, Prof. Ian O'Connor, Vice Chancellor and President of Griffith University as well as Dr. Ella Chan, Director of the School, officiated at the ceremony. Degrees were conferred on more than 120 graduates.

New book: "Bite-sized English" by CUSCS lecturers |
"Bite-sized English" contains 44 articles written by CUSCS lecturers of the Languages and Communication Division for a newspaper. The book is jointly edited by Senior Lecturers, Dr. Elza Tsang and Dr. Clarence Yau. Divided into four chapters, namely "Hot Issues", "Cultural Differences", "Film, TV and Advertisement" and "Learning Tips", these articles come with annotation boxes about learning language and liberal studies so as to provide readers with more useful tips on learning English.

2013 Hong Kong International Tea Fair |
Ms. Lisa Lee, Head of the Korean Language Education and Culture Centre, was invited to perform a Korean Tea ceremony at the 2013 Hong Kong International Tea Fair organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council on 15 August. The Fair introduced Korean culture to Hong Kong citizens, and the School, as a pioneer in Korean Language Education in Hong Kong, was privileged to be the co-organizer of the Korean Tea Art Performance.

A warm welcome to new students at CUSCS |
Dr. Ella Chan, Director of the School, visited the orientation camp organised by the Student Association at YWCA Sydney Leong Holiday Village, Lantau Island, on 5 September. Dr. Chan welcomed all new students and played games with nearly 180 new students.

ADARGA is a design brand established by alumnus Max Wong (Higher Diploma Programme in the Fashion Design and Product Development) and his classmates Lau Pak-hin, Xavier Mok and Kenny Wong. Max Wong was the Champion of Graduation Fashion Show 2012.

CUHK Marathon Team |
The first CUHK Golden Jubilee Marathon Team established last year has received overwhelming response and support from staff, students, and alumni. In order to gather CUHK members coming from different colleges, faculties and departments; and to spread out the CUHK's spirit to the public, the University will organize a CUHK Marathon Team again to participate in the Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon which will be held on 16 February 2014 (Sunday). All CUSCS students, staff, alumni and friends are welcome to join the team. You may invite relatives and friends with a maximum of 3 members to join the CUHK Team with you.
