Associate Pro-Vice-Chancellor and new Director of Academic Links

With effect from 1 August 2012, Prof. Gordon Cheung, former Director of Academic Links, has assumed duty as Associate Pro-Vice-Chancellor overseeing both the Office of Academic Links and the Office of Academic Links (China). At the same time, Ms. Shally Fan, former Associate Director of Academic Links, has assumed duty as Director of Academic Links.

Ms. Shally Fan first joined the University in 2001 to manage the University's student exchange programmes. Since then Ms. Fan has played a key role in developing the University's student exchange programmes which now include partnerships with over 220 institutions in 29 countries. Today, CUHK sends some 800 students on exchange. Ms. Fan was also instrumental in developing the summer session for exchange students in 2004. The Office of Academic Links provided pastoral care and support to some 520 students this summer. Ms. Fan has also facilitated numerous partnerships in teaching and research between CUHK and overseas institutions. She currently serves as Coordinator for the University's membership in the Worldwide Universities Network and as Vice-President for Conference Planning for the Asia-Pacific Association for International Education.

OAL launches new website
The new website of the Office of Academic Links (www.oal.cuhk.hk) went live on 17 October 2012.

The new website of the Office of Academic Links (OAL) went live on 17 October 2012. As part of OAL's efforts to support the University in implementing its internationalization strategies, a new website was launched to offer quick and easy access to essential information on the University's international links, academic and research collaborations, incoming delegation visits, and student exchange programme.

The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) is committed to establishing linkages with institutions around the world to support its staff and students in the pursuit of excellence in their fields of research and learning. CUHK has recently signed a collaboration agreement with Karolinska Institutet in Sweden to set a framework for both institutions to engage in collaborative projects in the medical field. Besides, Prof. Joseph Sung, Vice-Chancellor and President, and Prof. Jack Cheng, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, visited Utrecht University in the Netherlands on 23 October to consolidate the collaborations between the two universities and signed a memorandum of understanding for PhD student exchange.

News on Worldwide Universities Network activities

The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) is a member of the Worldwide Universities Network (WUN), an exclusive network of 18 research-led universities across nine countries. WUN supports research collaboration among its members with a Research Development Fund scheme that provides seeding fund for research projects under the Global Challenges. The Office of Academic Links received a number of applications for the scheme this year.

The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) warmly welcomes over 500 international and non-local students joining the CUHK community in the first term of the 2012-13 academic year! To promote student exchange, a series of activities are being organized from September to early November to disseminate information on exchange opportunities in 29 countries for the 2013-14 academic year.
