Professor Martin Chi-sang WONG, Assistant Professor of School of Public Health (SPH) and Department of Community and Family Medicine (DCFM), Dr Yiu-kai AU, Advisor of CUHK-SPH Public Health Humanitarian Initiative and Dr Ning FAN, Year 3 part-time student of MBA programme in Health Care have won the Second Hong Kong Humanity Award which is co-organised by the Hong Kong Red Cross and Radio Television Hong Kong.

| School of Public Health Introduces HK First Bachelor of Science in Public Health in September 2009 |

The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) is expanding the training of public health professionals from postgraduate to undergraduate level. CUHK School of Public Health (SPH) is introducing the new Bachelor of Science in Public Health (BSc in Public Health) programmme in September. It is the first undergraduate public health programme in Hong Kong aims to equip students from all disciplines with knowledge and skills in public health.

| Health Need Assessment of a 2008 Forgotten Earthquake in Jin Sha Jiang: From the Study Team's Perspective |

In collaboration with the Wu Zhi Qiao (Bridge to China) Charitable Foundation, the SPH Humanitarian Public Health Assessment team had visited the 2008 Panzhihau earthquake affected area around Jin Sha Jiang in March 2009. The assessment was conducted in the border area around Yunnan and Sichuan, and our study site constituted of a dozen of villages, whose population was mainly ethnic minority groups that were sparsely distributed along the upstream of Jin Sha Jiang — the origin of Yangtze River.

| Community Responses and Preparedness to the Human Swine Influenza Epidemic in HK |

The School of Public Health at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) has conducted a survey during May 7-9 2009 to assess the general public's responses to the emerging human swine flu (Influenza A H1N1) epidemic. A press conference was held to elaborate this study on 15 May 2009.

| Symposium on Future Directions for Public Health Education |

With the increasing roles and responsibilities of public health in healthcare reform, health education, infectious diseases control and sustainability, the School of Public Health organised a Symposium on Future Directions for Public Health Education to explore shared views and interests in developing better public health education with experts from various Asia Pacific countries including Hong Kong, Mainland China, Taiwan, Australia, Malaysia, Indonesia and India on 28 February and 1 March 2009 in Hong Kong.

| The Second Network Initiation Meeting with WBI: The Asia Network for Health Policy Capacity Building and Knowledge Exchange |

Experts from over ten countries in the Asia-Pacific region came and joined the Second Network Initiation Meeting with representatives from the World Bank Institute (WBI) at the School of Public Health of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) on 17 -18 April 2009. Dr Maria Luisa ESCABOR, Lead Health Specialist of Human Development Unit from WBI and Professor EK YEOH of the School of Public Health at CUHK were the chairs of this meeting.

| Systems for Health Seminar Series: Transform Healthcare Systems held by School of Public Health |

School of Public Health hosted a seminar on "Transform Health Care Systems" on 5 May 2009. The seminar was organised by Professor EK YEOH under Division of Health System, Policy and Management, which provided an opportunity for everyone to stimulate intellectual exchange for the wider global community on healthcare reform.
