Network Coding for Next Generation Networks

Network coding, a revolutionary theory for network communication developed by our team at CUHK around 2000, is widely acknowledged as a significant breakthrough in information sciences. Differing from conventional routing techniques, network coding combines incoming data packets into new ones for onward transmission to the subsequent node. 

Imperfection-enabled strengthening of ultra-lightweight lattice materials

In a significant advancement for the field of lightweight materials, our recent study has uncovered a novel method for enhancing the mechanical strength of ultra-lightweight lattice materials. These findings, published in Advanced Science, could pave the way for more efficient, durable, and stable materials in industries such as aerospace, automotive, and medical engineering.

AI Exhibition - Pushing the Frontiers of AI: CUHK’s Journey Through Innovation

The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) had hosted the “Pushing the Frontiers of AI: CUHK’s Journey Through Innovation” exhibition from 14 October until 25 November 2024 at the University Library. Cohosted by the Faculty of Engineering and the University Library, the exhibition highlights the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) and information technology across various fields.

Two CUHK Engineering Professors elected IEEE Fellows for 2025

Two professors from The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK)’s Faculty of Engineering have been elected Fellows of the prestigious Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) in the class of 2025. They are Professor CHAN Yuen Yan Rosanna from Department of Information Engineering and Professor PAN Sinno Jialin from Department of Computer Science and Engineering.
Engineering scholars named Highly Cited Researchers 2024 and listed as World's Top 2% Scientists

It is thrilled to share that four Engineering scholars have been named on the Highly Cited Researchers 2024 list released by Clarivate Analytics and 84 Engineering professors are listed as the world’s top 2% most-cited scientists by Stanford University in its recently updated science-wide author database. This recognition evinces the substantial impacts of the research accomplished by the Faculty members.

Professor Anthony Man-Cho So and Professor Bei Yu receive honorable awards in world-class conferences

We are delighted to announce that Professor Anthony Man-Cho So from Department of Systems Engineering and Engineering Management together with his team received the 2024 INFORMS Computing Society (ICS) Prize at the 2024 INFORMS Annual Meeting, while Professor Bei Yu from Department of  Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) from has been honored with the Best Paper Award at International Conference on Computer-Aided Design (ICCAD) 2024, one of the premier conferences in electronic design automation (EDA).

Professor Ady Suwardi elected as MIT Technology Review Innovators Under 35 Asia Pacific 2024

Professor Ady Suwardi, Vice-Chancellor Assistant Professor from Department of Electronic Engineering received the award of Innovators Under 35 Asia Pacific 2024 by MIT Technology Review. "Innovators Under 35" is a prestigious platform and program that has been identifying young talent for over 20 years. This is an annual award to young scientists and innovators across Asia-Pacific region, limited to 35 awardees under age of 35 years old.
Four Engineering Professors’ projects funded by 2024/25 NSFC/RGC Joint Research Schemes

The Research Grants Council (RGC) of Hong Kong recently announced the funding results of the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC)/RGC Joint Research Scheme (JRS) 2024/25. Faculty of Engineering has received funding for 4 projects, and the principal investigators are Professor Li Hongsheng from the Department of Electronic Engineering, Professor Martin Stolterfoht from the Department of Electronic Engineering, Professor Raymond Yeung Wai-ho from the Department of Information Engineering, and Professor Zhang Li from the Department of Mechanical and Automation Engineering.

Professor Chen Shih-Chi awarded BOCHK Science and Technology Innovation Prize 2024

Professor Chen Shih-Chi, Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Automation Engineering has been honoured with the BOCHK Science and Technology Innovation Prize (STIP) 2024 for his outstanding scientific research achievements in the field of “Advanced Manufacturing”.
CUHK Programming team achieved high honors in The 48th ICPC World Finals

The programming team from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering has achieved High Honors in the 48th ICPC (International Collegiate Programming Contest) World Finals held in Astana, Kazakhstan. The team consists of three undergraduate students from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering: Hsieh Chong Ho, Ng Hiu Tsun, and Wai Ka Hei.

Dr. Siting Liu wins 1st Place at the ACM Student Research Competition at ICCAD 2024

Dr. Siting Liu from Department of Computer Science and Engineering has won 1st place in the prestigious ACM Student Research Competition (SRC) held at ICCAD 2024. This remarkable achievement is a testament to Dr. Liu’s outstanding research contributions and academic excellence in the field of VLSI placement and routing optimization.
CUHK BME Students win Gold medal at iGEM 2024

The HongKong-CUHK iGEM 2024 Team has been awarded a Gold Medal at the International Genetically Engineered Machine (iGEM) 2024 Grand Jamboree, held in Paris, France, from October 23 to 26, 2024. In addition to the prestigious Gold Medal, the team was nominated for the Best Education Award in the undergraduate section. The Hong Kong-CUHK team has been distinguished as one of only five nominees globally, joining one winner and three other nominees in this category.
