Landon Chan, a Year 3 medical student at S.H. Ho College, has been selected as a recipient for the Innovation and Technology Scholarship Award which is organized by The Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups and jointly sponsored by the Innovation and Technology Commission and HSBC. The Scheme aims to nurture 25 aspiring young scientists each year by providing ample exposure to innovation and technology with different modes of learning. With the scholarship support, Landon will be learning research skills in a sizeable laboratory at Yale University this summer.

Intellectual Delight at High Table
Hong Kongers are known for their diligence and innovativeness, who have transformed the city from a manufacturing powerhouse for textiles, electronics and toys into a world-class financial centre. Hong Kong's core competitive advantages such as internationalized metropolis, independent judiciary, efficiency and proximity to mainland China have enabled the city to navigate global economic swings and domestic shocks. In the high table dinner held in March and April, students learnt from guest speakers about the concerted efforts of Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) in combating corruption to uphold the city's tradition of 'Rule of Law', and an accomplished entrepreneur's pursuit of a successful life beneath the Lion Rock.

Carrying Capacity of Colours
Art is the representation and extension of human emotion. Winnie, Student Counsellor of the College, said, 'The word "heart" is composed of "he" and "art". When a person concentrates on art creation, his inner feelings will be represented.' Sometimes, humans find it hard to verbalize their emotion through logical language. But the artwork creation process may echo their feelings and release their emotion. In mid-April, nine SHHO students experienced the carrying capacity of colours in The Wells and expressed their emotion through 'Circle Painting'. The room was immersed in soft music. Winnie gently struck her Tibetan singing bowl and began a soulful journey with all the participants.

Memories Picturized
S.H. Ho College organized its Photo Day for the graduands on 10 April. Sharing the joy of the graduands, different participating departments prepared fabulous decorations on the College Lawn and Open Plaza for photo-taking.
Time flies. The last batch of the three-year undergraduates are graduating, who were admitted to the university through the Advanced Level Examination. S.H. Ho College organized its Photo Day for the graduands on 10 April. Sharing the joy of the graduands, different participating departments prepared fabulous decorations on the College Lawn and Open Plaza for photo-taking. In addition, 14 SHHO graduands crystallized their College life into installation arts and held their Arts and Photo Exhibition on 13-22 May. Each artwork is a story of dream and persistence.

Holistic Care Offered by College General Education
The word 'education' is derived from its Latin roots 'ex' and 'duco' which mean 'to bring out' and 'to lead' respectively. Altogether it means 'to draw forth from within'. The essence of education lies in inspiring students from within to unleash their potential. Prof. Dinky Lau, Dean of General Education of S.H. Ho College, remarked that College General Education aims at building students' reflective capacity and learning community. She said, 'Instead of pouring knowledge into students' heads, our curriculum design helps ignite students intellectual thinking skills through experiential learning. The mutual support they've experienced in the process helps them nurture invaluable friendship and acquire knowledge. What they will acquire is far beyond the grades printed on their transcripts.'

Exploring the Arctic
A group of 17 students and 5 staff of S.H. Ho College embarked on their 12-day expedition to the Arctic on 10 May. They are the first team of undergraduates in Hong Kong to venture the Arctic Expedition. Advised by Dr. Rebecca Lee, founder of the China Polar Museum Foundation, the visit took students to the west coast of Greenland to understand the ecology, climate, geography and Paleo-Eskimo cultures there. Upon their return, they will present to society their findings in the expedition to raise public awareness of environmental care.

First Encounter with CUHK
Five F.5 students from CUHKFAA Chan Chun Ha Secondary School met with Master Samuel Sun for breakfast in Ho Sin Hang Hall at the College on 24 April. They were much inspired by Master Sun's rich and fulfilling life, who answered their questions ranging from further studies, the attitude of academic pursuit to vocation in life. Master Sun gave them insightful advice patiently. The breakfast gathering was jointly organized by CUHK Alumni Affairs Office and CUHKFAA Chan Chun Ha Secondary School in a bid to extend students' horizon through communicating with senior professors at breakfast, and encourage them to set life goals such as pursuing their tertiary education at CUHK. The scheme is therefore named as 'First Encounter with CUHK'.

A Memorable Night Talk on University Life

Mr. David Lo, Resident Tutor of Lee Quo Wei Hall

Finishing university studies in a tumultuous era and having worked in mass media for many years, Mr. Michael Ng would be the most pertinent one to share his wisdom with students facing an ever-changing world. On 5 March, Master Sun, Prof. Vincent Lee, two wardens and three students attended the night talk offered by Mr. Ng. He first highly approved of the Vice Chancellor's advice that university students should explore the world more to broaden their horizon when they were still young. Nevertheless, Mr. Ng provided another alternative if they stayed in Hong Kong. He encouraged students to strive for knowledge and to enrich their life experience fervently so as to equip themselves in the face of political instability and uncertainties.
