2025 was an exciting and memorable year for our Department, which has been renamed to the Department of Statistics and Data Science, effective 1 August 2025. This refreshed identity better reflects our expanded academic and research focus. Over the years, the Department has built a strong foundation in statistics and made significant strides in the rapidly growing field of data science.

Dr. John Wright was invited to present a talk titled "How to Meet Your Mr./Mrs. Right," exploring the secretary problem in mathematics, at The ELCHK Yuen Long Lutheran Secondary School on 28 May 2025.

The International Symposium on Statistics and Risk Management 2024 was hosted by the Department of Statistics and Data Science on 9 December 2024 at Yasumoto International Academic Park. The symposium provided a platform for internationally renowned scholars to present their latest research findings and share their enthusiasm and dedication in the fields of Statistics, Risk Management, and beyond, facilitating the exchange of ideas and fostering research collaborations.

The Department hosted several delegation visits from mainland institutions in 2024-25. During the visits, members introduced the academic programmes and research areas of the Department and explored collaboration opportunities with the guests.
