Event: Boulevard Echoes‧Chinese Music Lunchtime Performance, jointly presented by the Institute of Chinese Studies and the Department of Music
Three performances named "Boulevard Echoes" were held in the Art Museum between October and November. Students from the Department of Music were invited to perform traditional Chinese songs with various Chinese musical instruments.

The Department of Music and the Institute of Chinese Studies worked together for the first time to organise three lunchtime concerts, called "Boulevard Echoes". The concerts featured a selection of classical pieces, including Cai yun zui yue彩雲追月, Song wo yi zhi mei gui hua送我一支玫瑰花, Mo li hua茉莉花, Chun jiang hua yue ye春江花月夜 and Xi hu chun xiao西湖春曉for the full ensemble and for smaller combinations. The concerts drew audiences of more than a hundred.

These concerts provided the audience with a valuable opportunity to learn more about the different categories and characteristics of Chinese musical instruments. The instruments used for the performances included bowed string instruments (e.g., Gaohu, Zhonghu and Erhu), plucked string instruments (e.g., Pipa, Zhongruan, Sanxiau, Guzheng, Yangqin and Liuqin), wind instruments (e.g., Dizi, Sheng and Xiao) and Chinese percussion instruments.

Video clips of the performances are available at the site of the Music Department blog, http://cuhkmusic.blogspot.hk
