Professor Ho Tsung-Yi and Professor Tao Yufei of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering have been elected the Fellows of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) 2024.  Professor Ho and Professor Tao were elected for contributions respectively to design automation and test of microfluidic biochips, and to large-scale data processing.

Prof. HO Tsung-Yi, had been elected Fellows of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) in the class of 2024, for his research contributions to design automation and test of microfluidic biochips. Prof. Ho’s research interests include several areas of computing and emerging technologies, especially in design automation of microfluidic biochips. Besides, Prof. Ho had been served as an ACM Distinguished Speaker for 2014-2020, a Distinguished Visitor of the IEEE Computer Society for 2013-2015, a Distinguished Lecturer of the IEEE Circuits and Systems Society for 2016-2017, and an ACM Distinguished Member since 2019.

Prof. TAO Yufei has been elected as an IEEE Fellow in the class of 2024, recognizing his research contributions to large-scale data processing. Prof. Tao’s research focuses on the development of “small-and-sweet” algorithms that are both easily implementable for practical use (small) and provide non-trivial theoretical guarantees (sweet). He finds great satisfaction in addressing challenges that emerge at the intersection of databases, machine learning, and theoretical computer science. It is worth noting that Prof. Tao was also elected as an ACM Fellow in 2020.
