At the beginning of 2013, seven staff members and students of SHHO Runner Force programme, together with 20 veteran marathon runners from Hong Kong, participated in the Xiamen International Marathon, one of the leading marathon competitions in China. Mr. Kwan Ho Cheung, student of System Engineering and Engineering Management, finished the 10km race in 50 minutes and became champion of the group.
The Xiamen marathon tour is the first station of SHHO Runner Force. Participants have received training from accredited trainers, and run marathons in and outside Hong Kong. The Xiamen tour is followed by Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon in February, Australia Gold Coast Airport Marathon in June, Taipei Marathon in December, and South Korea Cherry Blossom Marathon next April.
SHHO Runner Force programme combines healthy lifestyle with seeing the world. Through running, students enhance their physical and mental well-being, cultivate perseverance and willpower. The College encourages students to run to see the world, to make new friends and to share the joy of running. By challenging themselves to run in shorter time and longer distance, students are given a long-term goal and driving force of their university life.
The group also went to experience Fujian culture by visiting Tulou (earth dwelling) and touring around historic villages. |
