Two professors from Faculty of Engineering win awards for papers

A paper by Professor Liao Wei-Hsin from the Department of Mechanical and Automation Engineering has won IOP Publishing’s China Top Cited Paper Award 2022. Titled “4D Printed Tunable Mechanical Metamaterials with Shape Memory Operations”, the paper appeared in “Smart Materials and Structures” (28, 045019, 2019, DOI: 10.1088/1361-665X/ab0b6b) and credits Professor Liao as its corresponding author along with Dr. M. Bodaghi, a former post-doc fellow at CUHK.

Based on Web of Science data, IOP Publishing awards corresponding authors in China whose papers have been in the top 1% of the most-cited articles published within its portfolio of journals in the last three years (2019–2021).

In recognition of his outstanding contributions to the advancement of smart structures and materials (SSM), Professor Liao was a recipient of the ASME Adaptive Structures and Material Systems Award and the SPIE SSM Lifetime Achievement Award in 2020 and 2018 respectively. He has also had four other papers recognised by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) and American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME).

Professor Daniel Z. Long from the Department of Systems Engineering and Engineering Management and his collaborators, Professor Jin Qi from HKUST and Dr. Aiqi Zhang – a graduate of CUHK’s Ph.D. programme in 2021 and a current post-doc fellow at the University of Toronto – have won the First Prize in the Best Paper Award category at the 14th CSAMSE Conference (International Annual Conference of the Chinese Scholars Association for Management Science and Engineering) for their paper titled “Supermodularity in Two-Stage Distributionally Robust Optimisation”.
