“The Bei Shan Tang Legacy: Chinese Seals” International Symposium, co-organized by Art Museum, the Institute of Chinese Studies, and the Department of Fine Arts was successfully held on 28–29 November 2024 at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). The symposium was an extension of the exhibition, “The Bei Shan Tang Legacy: Chinese Seals”, which is on display at the Art Museum until 9 February 2025. With the generous support by the Bei Shan Tang Foundation, 20 renowned experts from Mainland China, Japan, and Hong Kong were invited to discuss the historical value, philological and artistic interpretations of Chinese seals, as well as technology and seal studies. |
The two-day symposium comprised 5 sessions, chaired by invited hosts, including Prof. Tang Pui Ling from The University of Hong Kong, Prof. Feng Xiang-Qian from the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, and CUHK scholars Dr. Tang Man Leung, Prof. Tian Wei, and Dr. Ho Pik Ki. Discussions ranged from the historical development of Chinese seals to new discoveries and the application of scanning technology in seal studies, sparking significant feedback from online audiences and contributing to a fruitful conclusion to the event. |
