Celebrating the 10th Anniversary of Centre of Research and Promotion of Women's Health and the 100th Anniversary of International Women's Day – A Symposium Focuses on Women's Health

The Centre of Research and Promotion of Women's Health (CRPWH) of the CUHK School of Public Health and Primary Care (SPHPC) organized its 10th Anniversary Symposium on "Women's Health through the Life Cycle: the Asia Perspectives" on 2-3 March 2011 at SPHPC Shaw Auditorium, Prince of Wales Hospital.  

The Symposium was very honored to have the Deputy Director of Health, Dr. Gloria Tam, JP, the Dean of CUHK Faculty of Medicine, Professor Fok Tai Fai and the SPHPC Director, Professor Sian Griffiths as the officiating guests for the Opening Ceremony.

Prof. Norman F Boyd, Professor of Medicine from the University of Toronto, shared his research on "Mammographic density and breast cancer risk". Prof. Steven R Cummings, Professor Emeritus of Epidemiology and Biostatistics from the University of California, shared with us his international perspective through his lecture on "Biology of aging and women's musculoskeletal health". Prof. Shu Xiao Ou, Professor of Medicine and Ingram Professor of Cancer Research from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, shared her insight on "Cancer risks in Asian women". Also, Prof. Jack CY Cheng, our Pro-Vice Chancellor, shared his expertise on "Scoliosis in adolescence". Prof. Leung Ping Chung, Professor Emeritus of Orthopaedics and Traumatology, gave a keynote lecture on "Update on the management of osteoporosis". Over 20 local and mainland speakers shared their experiences on contemporary health challenges spanning over women's life stages from the Asia perspective. In addition,  Mr. Dominic Lo, Physiotherapist from the Jockey Club Centre for Osteoporosis Care and Control led a relieving stretching exercise which engaged all participants.

The Symposium was well received by over 200 local and overseas delegates from government, non-government organizations, academia, and professional bodies. They expressed that they had benefited and gained a better understanding on women's health and challenges in Asia through their participation in the event.
