Miss Ziyi Xu and Mr. Chang Cai, PhD students supervised by Prof. Angela Zhang from the Department of Information Engineering, have been recognised for their research projects in the 1st IEEE ComSoc Three Minute Thesis (3MT) Competition held at the IEEE International Conference of Communications (ICC) 2023.

The competition challenges PhD students to explain their research in just three minutes. In Round 1, students around the world submitted three-minute video presentations, and only the top 15 competitors were invited to attend Round 2 in person at the ICC.

Both Miss Xu and Mr. Cai managed to get into the top 15, and were each awarded a US$2000 travel grant. In Round 2, Miss Xu ranked 2nd and won the Second Prize. Their achievements are incredible – with Miss Xu being a first-year PhD student, and Mr. Cai being a second-year PhD student, whereas most of the other competitors are in their senior years.
