Three PhD in Statistics Students received funding for their start-ups from the Cyberport Creative Micro Fund (CCMF) provided by the Hong Kong SAR Government, and from PILOTS Lite Programme of the CUHK PI Centre

Three PhD students in Statistics have received funding for their start-ups: (supervised by Prof. Tony Sit and Prof. Wong Hoi Ying), Mr. Ye Junyan (supervised by Prof. Wong Hoi Ying), and Mr. Da Zhiyi (supervised by Prof. Phillip Yam). They have secured HKD 100,000 from the Cyberport Creative Micro Fund provided by the Hong Kong SAR Government, as well as HKD 30,000 under the PILOTS Lite Programme from the CUHK PI Centre. Their start-ups focus on DeFi Automated Market Making and Optimal Trading Strategies, along with a user-friendly DeFi no-code trading interface designed for non-coders.
Mr. Miao Jishuai, a PhD student in Statistics, received funding from the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) under the Basic Research Scheme for PhD Students [國家自然科學基金 – 青年學生基礎研究項目 (博士研究生) ]

Mr. Miao Jishuai, a PhD student in Statistics supervised by Professor Lin Zhixiang, has received funding from the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) under the Basic Research Scheme for PhD Students [國家自然科學基金 – 青年學生基礎研究項目 (博士研究生) ] for his research project titled: "Integrated Quantitative Modeling and Evaluation of Cell-Cell Communication and Gene Regulatory Networks from Spatial Multi-omics Data". This scheme aims to provide funding support to current PhD students, enabling them to conduct research that enhances their ability to undertake innovative scientific endeavors independently.
QFRM Student Sam Wong won top awards in the International Trading Competition


Mr. Wong Hung Sing Sam, a student from the Quantitative Finance and Risk Management (QFRM) Programme, has achieved remarkable success at the Saudi Arabia Algorithmic Trading Challenge 2025 organized by The Algo Challenge Association.
In this global competition which attracted a record-breaking 800 participants from 49 countries, Sam showcased exceptional talent and innovation, and earned two major accolades:
- Winner of the Best Strategy Design Award
- 1st Runner-Up of the Best Return Award
The awards were presented on 17 September 2025 during the Money20/20 event in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
2024–25 Science Faculty Postgraduate Research Day
The faculty’s annual postgraduate research day was held on 27 May 2025. It provided a platform for postgraduate students to gain exposure at the seminar, to present their innovative research results and to share research ideas and experiences.

Best Teaching Assistant Award

Ji Jie (PhD in STAT) and Ngan Yi Ho (MPhil in STAT) were awarded the Best Teaching Assistant Award 2024–25 in recognition of their outstanding teaching.
Research Achievement / Exploration Awards for Graduate Students in Statistics

Luo Yongyi (PhD in STAT) received the Research Achievement Award for Graduate Students in Statistics 2024–25 in recognition of her research achievements, including but not limited to research publications, research presentations, conference posters and performance in research competitions.

Zhuang Sixian (PhD in STAT) received the Research Exploration Award for Graduate Students in Statistics 2024-25 in recognition of his great effort on taking part in various research activities.
