Guest Lecture by Ku Yu-ling:
"
Perspectives and Visions of Non-Fictional Writing"

On April 20, the MA course Un/homely Islands: Hong Kong and Taiwan Literatures invited Ku Yu-ling to deliver a guest lecture via Zoom. Ku is a writer and social activist, and teaches on oral history and non-fictional writing, as well as cultural studies in Taiwan. After listening to a student presentation on her literary work, she gave a talk on “Perspectives and Visions of Non-Fictional Writing”. Ku shared her experience in social movements in Taiwan and recalled different stories in her writings. She reminded the audience how literature can make both the writer and the reader reflect upon different possibilities. The lecture was followed by a Q&A session during which students voiced a variety of thoughts and raised questions regarding non-fictional writing and its ethics.
