Professor Nelson Chow retired as Chair Professor at the Department of Social Work & Social Administration of The University of Hong Kong in 2013. He now serves as an Honorary Professor of the Department. Professor Chow has spent his career on studying public policy and carrying out frontline social work, and has become one of the most respected welfare and social policy academics in Hong Kong. He has published two books recently: namely Social Policy Theories and Planning and Poverty in Hong Kong in the Last 60 Years. He was also entrusted by the Commission on Poverty of the HKSAR Government to work on a research report titled 'Study on the Future Development of Retirement Security in Hong Kong' in 2013. During his sharing at the High Table Dinner, Professor Chow pinpointed the changing views of the younger generations towards the traditional moral obligation to take care of their aging parents; he also raised students' awareness on the importance of developing a comprehensive pension system in Hong Kong and other emerging issues, such as the old-age poverty problem, brought by the ageing population.
The last High Table Dinner of this academic year was rounded up by a piano performance of a medley comprising several Chinese pop songs arranged by Mr Kevin Dhali. As an incoming exchange student, Kevin had participated actively in different kinds of College activities since his arrival to CWC in early 2015. He expressed his gratitude to the College and love to this community through this performance. All exchange students were invited to take part in the photo taking session afterwards and brought home a set of photos that captured their unforgettable memories at CW Chu College.
Distribution of fruits at the last communal dining
