CUSCS celebrates golden jubilee anniversary

2015 marks the 50th golden jubilee anniversary of CUSCS and a series of activities will be held throughout the year.  To kick off the wide array of celebratory activities, an Opening Ceremony for the 50th Golden Jubilee Anniversary was held on 5 March 2015 at CUSCS Central Learning Centre. It was officiated by Professor Joseph Sung, Vice-Chancellor and President of CUHK, and Mr. Brian Lo, Deputy Secretary for Education of HKSAR.

Professor Sung shared that he enrolled in a Chinese calligraphy course after he graduated from the Faculty of Medicine 30 years ago.  He encouraged the School to continue offering quality courses to help learners explore new knowledge, develop new interests, or even develop a second career.  During his visit to a talk on Chinese calligraphy in the Continuing Education Programmes Open House, Professor Sung was invited to demonstrate his talent and write "天人合一" – an ancient Chinese philosophy of harmony.

Mr. Brian Lo expressed his appreciation for the School's dedicated effort in promoting continuing education, and his wish that the School continue to offer courses for a diversity of audiences.  Dr. Ella Chan, Director of the School, said CUSCS would continue to launch new and varied courses that meet the changing needs of society and help learners to enrich their life.

Other guests attending the Ceremony included Professor Hau Kit-tai, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of CUHK, Professor Ho Puay-peng, Chairman of Advisory Board of Continuing and Professional Studies, Advising Board members, and friends from the education sector and commercial field.

As one of the celebratory activities, the Continuing Education Programmes Open House was held on the same day.  Exhibitions, talks and workshops of various themes were organised to introduce visitors to the continuing education programmes offered by the School.

Other activities in the pipelines include the Golden Jubilee Conference: Lifelong Education and Career Development on 7 July 2015 which will offer an intriguing platform for exchange of views and experiences by interested educators and professionals; Higher Diploma Programmes Open Day on 6 June 2015 at Tseung Kwan O Learning Centre to help secondary students learn more about the pathways of further study offered by our School as well as the multiple dimensions of campus life with CUSCS; another Continuing Education Programmes Open House in September that highlights key features and information about the School's lifelong education courses; Alumni Homecoming Day; the 50th Anniversary Thanksgiving Dinner; graduation exhibitions of various programmes; and the 50th Anniversary Exhibition held at various locations to showcase the achievements of the students of our School.  Please refer to the Anniversary Website for details of our celebratory activities.
