Cultural Dinner with Cantonese Opera

International students and exchange students had come early to take seats that had the best view of the stage. Local students eagerly awaited the show with cameras in hands. Cantonese opera Legend of the White Snake – Stealing Immortal Herbs by The Young Academy Cantonese Opera Troupe was performed during the College's Cultural Dinner on 14 November 2012. The music of traditional Chinese instruments breathed an air of classic elegance to the contemporary Ho Sin Hang Hall.

Characters in black, red, blue, green and white jumped and flied around the stage. Every glare, hand movement, kick and turn manifested the performers' strength and years of practice off stage. Rounds and rounds of applause broke out. S.H. Ho students, especially those from abroad, witnessed Chinese expressions of romance and conflict via the dazzling performance of Cantonese opera.  Shanghai dishes were served afterwards: marinated cucumber, wined chicken, braised meatballs, whole fried fish with pine nuts. It was a feast for eyes, ears and palate.
