Dream On, Our Pioneers!

November 21, 2013 is the milestone day of S.H. Ho College: the first cohort of students who were admitted in 2010 became the first S.H. Ho graduates this year. Dressed in gowns representing their respective faculties, the graduates proceeded to the stage one after another to receive their certificates and college souvenirs from Master Samuel Sun and Dr. Tzu-leung Ho. Arriving at the stage, the student's individual photo, name and feeling about graduation were also shown on the screen, symbolizing the College treasures the uniqueness and presence of each graduate.

Master Sun said in his speech that he appreciated the graduates' courage and wisdom in selecting S.H. Ho College to affiliate with in its first year. As the first batch of students who experienced inconveniences and difficulties, they gained the rare opportunity to grow, shape and make history of the College. Their pioneer spirit and the footsteps imprinted on this young college were cherished. Yesterday's deficiency, difficulties and struggles have grown into today's sweet memories. He referred to Steve Jobs' famous quote "Innovation distinguishes between a leader and a follower" and encouraged the College pioneers to uphold the spirit of innovation to charge into the challenging world ahead, to lead, and to pursue their dreams.

Mrs. Sarah Squire, Deputy Vice Chancellor and President of Hughes Hall of the University of Cambridge, was delivered her address as the Guest of Honour of the ceremony. She reminded the graduates the dimension of REAL education – the chance to live with and become friends with fellow students and academic staff from across the whole spectrum of intellectual life.  "Certainly a good college experience is an education in itself," she said.  She hoped that the graduates would never stop asking questions or seeking out fresh ideas; and would judge those ideas against the yardstick of firm principles; and to keep in touch with the College as they progress.

Graduate representative Miss Truda Tsoi recalled her fond memory in the past three years –  from dining at the borrowed Benjamin Franklin Canteen to the well-equipped Ho Sin Hang Hall; from temporally living in I-House to their own cozy hostels; from communal dining experience to Mrs. Sun's tasty homemade bakery. She enjoyed the wide spectrum of SHHO life in which she was encouraged to actualize her dream. "With the College's support, I initiated the Hurricane Exploring Theatre and conducted my first ever contemporary dance performance at the College," she smiled. Miss Tsoi thanked all the guardian angels she met, and encouraged her fellows to carry SHHO spirit to the next stage and to pursue their dreams.
