During the visit on 30 April 2012, Prof. Chan Wai-Yee, Director of the School of Biomedical Sciences gave the guests a brief introduction on the overall design and planning process of constructing the LIBSB. In the guided tour to our core laboratories, a typical theme-based research floor with open and modular lab setting and breakout area as well as animal holding facilities, the guests were further briefed on the spatial relationship among the various set-ups and components of these infrastructures and on the many essential parameters needed to be taken into account during the planning stage (e.g. lighting; air change; negative pressurization, exhaust air ducts, delivery and caging for lab animals with sterilization and washing devices, etc). After visiting our School, the guests also paid a visit to the Li Ka Shing Institute of Health Sciences at Prince of Wales Hospital.
We take pride in showcasing our School and the LIBSB to the major responsible parties of this new CEP project. Through the shared experience, we hope to contribute not only to its smooth planning and successful establishment, but most importantly to the promotion of translational research, thus benefitting the well-being of the community in the long run.
