IT lover Benny Chan started an IT company at the Science Park with a few of his classmates from University a year after finishing their undergraduate studies.  However, he soon realised that his lack of sales and marketing knowledge created a lot of challenges being an entrepreneur.  He therefore opted for CUSCS' Professional Diploma Programme in Marketing to lead his business onto the road of success.

Being a graduate of Computer Science, Benny is an expert in the IT field.  Running a business, however, is another story.  "Our products and services, such as apps development and network application, are intangible goods.  Sales are usually made through the internet and interaction with the consumers is limited.  In comparison to tangible goods, consumers' willingness to spend is relatively lower" Benny noted.  Developing the market for intangible goods, positioning the company, setting competitive prices, and gaining credibility in the industry were challenges that Benny and his team faced as his business started.

Benny realised that having competitive market strategies and industry credibility are the keys to success.  "I considered enroling in a credible MBA programme, but the coverage of topics is too broad and not specific enough.  CUSCS' Professional Diploma Programme in Marketing provided me with more practical knowledge that has helped me significantly in growing my business, such as consumer behavior, selling and sales management, marketing management and service marketing" Benny pointed out.  Utilising his new knowledge, his revised marketing strategies successfully grew the customer base and built up excellent reputation and credibility in the field.  His company has recently partnered up with Intel on mobile phone app development and has successfully entered the China market.  At the same time, Benny's company collaborated with a public organisation to develop a quality assurance system application which helps to save administrative works and minimizes risks for the organisation.  Furthermore, Benny's company contributed to the community by developing a tablet app for students in a special needs institution, TWGHs Kwan Fong Kai Chi School, for easier communication.  His continuous efforts in striving to serve the community with his knowledge are highly admirable.
