The Faculty takes pride in announcing that Mr Chan Chi Keung, a PhD candidate in Philosophy, receives the Fulbright-RGC Hong Kong Research Scholar Award 2014-15. The Fulbright Program is the flagship international education exchange program run by the U.S. Government. It is designed to promote mutual understanding between the people of the U.S. and the people of other countries. The Award enables Mr Chan to conduct research at Boston University for ten months.
Mr Chan's PhD research project is entitled "The theory of Evil in Late Ming Confucianism". It aims to articulate and illuminate the concept of evil in Late Ming Confucianism, and thus investigate the problem of good and evil and human nature in a philosophical perspective. Under the supervision of Boston Confucians, Professor Robert C. Neville and Professor John H. Berthrong, Mr Chan investigates the understanding on the problem of evil held by different intellectual traditions from a comparative perspective.
Mr Chan would like to express his greatest gratitude to his dearest teachers Professor Cheng Chung-yi and Dr. Yeung Kwok-wing Anthony, for their enlightenment and guidance in his pursuit of knowledge and life. He is especially indebted to his parents and his wife for their unconditional love and care.
