The following programmes are currently open for applications by faculty members and PhD students of CUHK:
Brown International Advanced Research Institutes 2014 (Extended deadline: 30 January 2014)
Brown University (Brown) is inviting applications to the Brown International Advanced Research Institutes (BIARI) to be held on 7-21 June 2014. The objective of BIARI is to provide a platform for outstanding young faculty and professionals from around the world to address pressing global issues through high-level intellectual collaborations across traditional academic boundaries. Selected participants will be covered for the costs of air travel and US airport transfers to Providence, Rhode Island, as well as tuition, meals, and university housing for the duration of the programme.
In 2014, BIARI will host four Institutes which are designed as a residential, intensive 2-week long workshop consisting of lectures, seminars and workshops led by distinguished faculty. The topics of the four Institutes are as follows:
- Human Security and Humanitarian Response: Increasing Effectiveness and Accountability in the Age of Complex Emergencies
- Ethnicity, Conflict and Inequality in Global Perspective
- Population and Development: New Approaches to Enduring Global Problems
- Connections and Flows: Water, Energy, and Digital Information in the Global South
Eligibility
- Applications are invited from early-career scholars and practitioners working in fields related to the themes of the Institutes.
- Applicants from an academic background are usually within 7 years of having finished their PhD or professional degree.
- Practitioners normally have 4-10 years' experience in their professional field.

The Eurasia-Pacific Uninet Scholarships for PhD students and Post-docs
The Eurasia-Pacific Uninet (Uninet) is inviting applications from PhD students and Post-docs of CUHK to a research scholarship programme which supports a short-term research attachment at one of the Uninet member institutions in Austria.
Terms of Award
PhD Scholarships:
Duration of visit: six months in maximum
Value of award: €940 per month
Post-doc Scholarships:
Duration of visit: six months in maximum
Value of award: €1,040 per month
Eligibility
For PhD students:
- Hold a Master's degree
- Be registered as a full-time PhD student at CUHK at the time of application and during the visit
- Possess high scientific / artistic quality on an international level
- Have very good command of written and spoken English and/or German
- Provide a recommendation letter by the respective department at CUHK
- Provide a statement of acceptance by an academic supervisor of an Austrian member institution to act as an advisor and host
For Post-docs:
- Hold a PhD degree
- Hold an academic position at CUHK at the time of application and during the visit
- Possess high scientific / artistic quality on an international level
- Have very good command of written and spoken English and/or German
- Provide a recommendation letter by the respective department at CUHK
- Provide a statement of acceptance by an academic supervisor of an Austrian member institution to act as an advisor and host

Application procedure

Applicants should complete and return the application (PhD application form / Post-doc application form) and submit it with the following supporting documents to the Office of Academic Links (c/o Ms. Audrey Chung) by internal mail or email at audreyc@cuhk.edu.hk by 5:00 p.m. on 30 December 2013.
Short-listed applicants will be invited for an interview in January / February 2014. Only candidates with completed applications will be considered.
