CUHK wins bid to host APAIE conference for 2013

A bid to host the annual Asia-Pacific Association for International Education (APAIE) Conference and Exhibition in 2013 in Hong Kong submitted by the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) has been successful. The APAIE Conference and Exhibition will be integrated into CUHK's 50th anniversary celebrations in 2013.

CUHK's successful application will strengthen its profile in the international arena and showcase itself as one of the earliest players in student mobility across the region, underscoring its position at the forefront of international education.

Eighteen proposals from 12 countries competed for the honour of hosting APAIE. CUHK's winning bid includes a special programme that positions Hong Kong as a premier conference destination. To be held from 11–15 March 2013 at AsiaWorld-Expo, it will also inform participants about Hong Kong's new 3-3-4 academic structure and recent education reform in mainland China and what opportunities they provide for international education programming and partnerships.

CUHK was one of APAIE's 13 founding members in December 2004. The Association aims to achieve greater cooperation among those responsible for international activities in the region; promote quality international programmes, activities, and exchanges for the harmony and advancement of the Asia-Pacific region; and facilitate dialogue with counterparts in other regions. In 2011, 912 registrants from 44 countries representing 405 institutions took part in APAIE, which was held in Taipei and comprised an exhibition, parallel sessions, a Presidents' forum, and keynote speeches.
