Awards and Achievements

The College congratulates our members on receiving the following awards for their outstanding achievements.

College Affiliate

I. Prof CHEUNG Chi Kwan Vincent, Associate Professor in the School of Biomedical Sciences, was awarded HK$10 million for his two-year research on “Personalised Rehabilitation Pathways to Maximal Motor Functional Return through an AI Recovery Prediction System for Diverse Stroke Survivors”.

II. Prof CHUNG, Wang Leung Thomas, Associate Professor, School of Architecture, has been awarded both the General Research Fund (GRF) and the Humanities and Social Sciences Prestigious Fellowship Scheme (HSSPFS) 2024–25 on the projects titled “Developing a Rural Placemaking framework for ‘Countryside Conservation’ in Hong Kong” and “A ‘New Territory’: Recultivating rural futures for Hong Kong”, respectively.

III. Prof LAI Hei-ming, Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemical Pathology from the Faculty of Medicine, has been honoured with the 2024 Croucher Tak Wah Mak Innovation Awards by the Croucher Foundation.

IV. A research team led by Professor NG Wai Lung Billy, Assistant Professor in the School of Pharmacy and an investigator at the CUHK Li Ka Shing Institute of Health Sciences, has developed a novel class of small molecules called O-GlcNAcylation Targeting Chimeras (OGTACs). This pioneering method allows for precise manipulation of protein function in living cells and has the potential to revolutionize the treatment of various chronic diseases. The study has been published in the prestigious Journal of the American Chemical Society.

V. Prof TAI Pui Kuen Amos, Associate Professor in the Earth System Science Programme, Faculty of Science, has been awarded the Ten Outstanding Young Persons 2024  in recognition of his exceptional performance in the fields of atmospheric science and sustainability and his contributions to society.

VI. CUHK leads Hong Kong scientists to participate in China’s Antarctic expedition for the first time. Among the six scientists taking part in the 41st Antarctic expedition, four are from CUHK, including Associate Prof Martin TSUI Tsz-ki, School of Life Sciences and Department of Earth and Environmental Science.

College Students

I. Miss TSANG Yau (Year 2, History) won a Merit Award in the ‘Literacy CUHK’ essay competition organized by the Chinese Language Teaching Development Centre of the Department of Chinese Language and Literature at CUHK.

II. Mr Sattar KADIR (Mechanical and Automation Engineering, Year 4) has been awarded the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship, a highly prestigious scholarship for pursuing graduate studies in Hong Kong. He is also the recipient of the Cultus et Beneficentia Award 2025 for his achievement and contributions to the College.

III. Miss LEUNG Lok Tung, Miko (Laws, Year 4), has been awarded the inaugural College Graduate Award for Exemplary Contributions, in recognition of her important contributions and dedicated services to the College and its students over the years.

IV. Mr FAN, Ka Ho (Medicine, Year 1), Miss LI Tin Wai (Medicine, Year 1), Miss SHIU Pik Gar (Medicine, Year 1), Mr SUN Cho Fei (Risk Management Science, Year 4), Miss WANG Chunyi (Chinese Languages and Literature, Year 4) and Mr ZHAO Zikun (Artificial Intelligence: Systems and Technologies, Year 3) have won the Reaching Out Award (ROA) 2024/25. The ROA scheme is funded by the HKSAR Government to support students with good academic performance who engage in worthwhile overseas studies, internships, field trips, conferences and competitions etc. outside of Hong Kong.

V. Mr NG Po Shing Roy, a Law graduate from the Class of 2024, and his teammates won the Grand Champion and Final Best Speaker Award at the 48th Australasian Intervarsity Debating Championships (English as Foreign Language Category) this summer. Roy and his team displayed flexible critical thinking abilities and well-structured presentation skills in this international competition.
