I am most grateful to CNOOC Grant and the School of Public
Health and Primary Care for providing me a valuable opportunity to visit and
stay at the University of Oxford in summer 2010. I benefited a lot from my stay
in Oxford, not only from the inspirational lectures I attended, but also the
chance of getting to know so many talented professors and peers, who were
passionate about their research and were eager to share ideas and experiences
with others, as well as being exposed to the western culture which I found
amazing.
Sitting in the Habakkuk Room of the Jesus College during summer classes, I was surrounded by history and ancient architeture. I felt overwhelmed by Oxford's extraordinary accomplishments. The canteen where I had meals there looked exactly like what I saw in the Harry Porter movie, which reinforced the richness of cultural heritage of Oxford.
I was inspired by the interactive teaching approach being used in Oxford, and was pleased to learn and further develop my ideas by actively engaged in classroom discussion with peers and professors which I found very helpful in defining new ideas compared with the ways I am used to. I very much treasured the peaceful and quiet lifestyle in Oxford which was quite different from the hectic modern life we have in Hong Kong and mainland China. It taught me the importance of work-life balance. I'm sure all these new learning and life experience would be very helpful to my future career as a teacher and a researcher, and I hope to keep in touch with my friends that made in Oxford.
I will take with me memories that I will cherish for a long time.
