Simon studied the Higher Diploma Progamme in Commercial Design at our School. He likes the Programme because it is diversified, covering a wide range of design aspects from jewellery design to interior design and fashion design. While he was concentrating on his work, unknown to him, his mother and younger sister were becoming increasingly influenced by his passion. A great enthusiasm for art was gradually brewing in the family.
Art Family Outing
With the support of Simon, Lillian returned to school and took the Diploma Programme in Chinese Ink Painting. With growing interest, she is now studying the Advanced Diploma Programme in Chinese Ink Painting with her son. Diana Li, her younger daughter, also started her school life at CUSCS, taking the same programme as her brother. The Li family has developed an enduring bond with CUSCS and art.
Their family relationship grows closer and closer as they study the same course together. Lillian recalls one occasion when they were asked to draw a portrait of each other during class. 'In my son's eye, I am not a pretty woman but a master of martial art'. On the other hand, Lillian drew her son as a small child even though he is a grown man now.
Mutual Accommodation in a Limited Space
Diana admits there is not enough space for all the family to paint together at home. They have to take turn to use the limited space, and sometimes draw on the floor, on the wall or even on the bed. Simon will sometimes use the computer to finish his works first, allowing space for his mother and sister to work. Through this process, they develop a better understanding of each other's needs and enjoy their creative art world together.
The Li family has developed a profound relationship with our School. They have also built up strong friendships with the school staff and instructors, as was evident on the interview day. Once she has completed the Chinese Ink Painting Programme, Lillian's next goal is to study a calligraphy course with the School.
