Professor Helen Meng’s team from the Department of Systems Engineering and Engineering Management and Centre for Perceptual and Interactive Intelligence (CPII) (a CUHK-led InnoCentre on AI) won the top prize for their dialogue system at the 2022 DialDoc Workshop. Organised by the Association for Computational Linguistics (ACL), the 2022 DialDoc Workshop hosted a Shared Task challenge which involved building open-book goal-oriented dialogue systems. Among all the entries, the CPII system topped the leader boards in the two automatic evaluations at the initial stage. Following a further reranking exercise based on manual scores from a fraction (100) of dialogues selected for human evaluators, the system also ranked first and second on the SEEN and UNSEEN leader boards respectively to emerge the best system overall.
