Apply CUHK Seed Funding for Clinton Global Initiative University (CGIU) Meeting & Commitment to Action

The Clinton Global Initiative University (CGIU) is now calling for application to participate in the 10th annual CGIU Meeting which will be held 13 – 15 October 2017 at Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts, USA.

What is Clinton Global Initiative University (CGIU)?

Building on the successful model of the Clinton Global Initiative, which brings together world leaders to take action on global challenges, President Bill Clinton launched the Clinton Global Initiative University (CGIU) in 2007 to engage the next generation of leaders on college campuses around the world. Each year, CGIU hosts a meeting where students, university representatives, topic experts, and celebrities come together to discuss and develop innovative solutions to pressing global challenges. The 2017 meeting will bring together more than 1,100 students to make a difference in CGIU's five focus areas:

  • Education
  • Environment and Climate Change
  • Peace and Human Rights
  • Poverty Alleviation
  • Public Health

Students can apply as an individual or as a group of up to three students. Applicants are required to design a Commitment to Action in one of the CGIU's five focus areas to address a challenge on campus, in the local community or around the world. The application deadline is 10 May 2017 (Wednesday).

Funding supported by CUHK

The CGI University Network is a growing consortium of colleges and universities that support, mentor, and provide seed funding to leading student innovators and entrepreneurs on their respective campuses. As a member of the Network, CUHK provides funding support to selected projects undertaken by its students (only applicable to applicant who is CUHK registered student by the time of CGIU 2017 Meeting).

A total amount of US$10,000 in maximum will be allocated to selected projects, covering the expenses incurred from implementing the projects, and/or part of the travel expenses to attend the CGIU annual meeting. Only projects which are accepted by the CGIU will be eligible for the seed funding from CUHK.
