The theme of the Workshop centred around syntactic issues related to “D” , such as (but not limited to) Determiners, Definiteness, Degree, and Discourse. It attracted over seventy experts and scholars from all over the world to discuss and share their latest research results.

At the Opening Ceremony, Prof. Si Fuzhen, President and Chairperson of the Council of IAOSCS (second term) and Professor of Linguistics, Beijing Language and Culture University (BLCU), delivered the opening speech. Prof. Tang Sze Wing, Director of CLRC, gave the welcoming speech. Prof. Si also announced that Prof. Tang would succeed her as the President of the Council of IAOSCS (third term) and handed over the IAOSCS flag to him. The Workshop was honoured to have Prof. Luigi Rizzi from Collège de France and University of Siena, one of the founders of syntactic cartography theory, and Prof. C. T. James Huang from Harvard University and National Taiwan Normal University attend and deliver keynote speeches.

The selected papers will be accepted for publication in a special volume of Studies in Chinese Linguistics or Current Research in Chinese Linguistics, both published by CLRC. The International Workshop on Syntactic Cartography is a biennial event initiated by IAOSCS and BLCU in 2015. It aims to serve as a platform for linguists to discuss and exchange ideas on syntactic cartography.
