3. Wi-Fi Connections On and Off Campus

We have further enhanced the access this summer. Here are the updates!

On Campus: CUHK Wi-Fi Service

When you receive a Wi-Fi signal "CUHK" (formerly CUwebLogin) on campus, you can simply open your browser (such as IE, firefox, safari) and enter your CWEM password in order to get the Wi-Fi access. Please check its details and coverage at http://www.cuhk.edu.hk/itsc/network/wlan.

Off Campus: CUHK Wi-Fi Hotspot Partnership Programme
Under this programme, you can get a free Wi-Fi Internet access at all the hotspots operated by three partners, PCCW, Y5Zone and Eduroam. The first two allow you to have Wi-Fi access at their hotspots in many shopping malls, coffee shops, airport, etc. in Hong Kong. And the latter even gives you Wi-Fi access in other countries.

To enjoy this programme, you should first sign up for a Wi-Fi account at https://wifipartners.itsc.cuhk.edu.hk. If you have registered before 1 Jul, please re-register your account again so that you can enjoy the Eduroam access, a service we joined in June 2008.

Eduroam, standing for Education Roaming, is a secured network that allows students and staff from a member institution to enjoy free Wi-Fi service in other local and overseas universities that are Eduroam members. At the moment, 41 countries have participated in the programme, including eight tertiary education institutions in Hong Kong. After registration, you can use your own computers and a new registered account. To learn more about Eduroam, please visit http://www.eduroam.org (international website) and http://www.eduroam.hk (Eduroam Hong Kong).

Meanwhile, please be reminded that most Wi-Fi connections are unencrypted by default. To protect your privacy, you should avoid disclosing sensitive data via a Wi-Fi connection and please run a VPN connection beforehand. For other advices on public Wi-Fi services, please visit https://wifipartners.itsc.cuhk.edu.hk/bestpractices.html.

Enjoy the free Wi-Fi access on and off campus now!
