That summer, besides making diagnoses in Uganda, professors and SHHO students doubled up as bricklayers to build a dormitory funded by S.H. Ho College for a Watoto children's village. Under the scorching sun, they built walls with bricks and mortar. Regardless of nationalities, skin colours, social status or occupations, they were devoted solely for the passion for life. In autumn 2012, the dormitory was completed. From bricks to house, what they were building was much more than bricks and mortar. They were in fact trying to help people in the war-torn country to reconstruct their confidence, self-esteem and hope for the future.
To serve the needy is one of the SHHO's visions. Students are encouraged to broaden their views of the world by participating in different social services to experience life outside campus, outside Hong Kong. In the past two years, SHHO students have made impact in different corners of the world - in Hong Kong, the Mainland, Cambodia and Uganda.
Founders of Watoto Pastors Gary Skinner and Marilyn Skinner, Mr. Sunny Cheng and Miss Joanne Lam, Watoto Asia, visited SHHO on 5 December 2012. They explored further collaboration initiatives with Prof. Samuel Sun, Master of the College.
