1. Remembering the Breeze: Hong Kong in the 50s and 60s from the Ng Ho Collection

To pay our tribute to the late Mr. Ng Ho who made significant contributions to the development of and research on Hong Kong history and culture, and with his wife's, Mrs. Ng Wong Kar Wai, full support, the Library is glad to present this exhibition "Remembering the Breeze: Hong Kong in the 50s and 60s from the Ng Ho Collection".

The opening ceremony was held on 27 March 2015 at 4:30 p.m. at the University Library Exhibition Area.  Mrs. Ng Wong Kar Wai, Prof. Joseph Sung (Vice-Chancellor and President, CUHK), Prof. Leung Yuen Sang (Dean of Arts, CUHK), and Ms. Louise Jones (University Librarian, CUHK) officiated at the ceremony.

2. New Library Website is coming in Summer 2015

A new library web site will be launched this summer.  This is the outcome of ongoing consultation with our community users and implementation of the key ideas coming from the winning mobile apps in the Library Mobile Apps Challenge of the 5th International m-libraries Conference.  Here are the highlights of its main features:

3. Launch of the CUHK Electronic Theses and Dissertations Collection

The CUHK Electronic Theses and Dissertation Collection (http://udi.lib.cuhk.edu.hk/projects/etd) was launched in December 2014.  It holds more than 10,000 volumes of the full text in both English and Chinese of research degree's theses and doctoral dissertations submitted by postgraduates of CUHK since 1967.  Searchable PDFs in both English and Chinese for the body text, abstract and table of contents are provided.

5. New Printing/Copying Receipts to Replace Department Copying/Printing Cards

Good news! Starting from July 2015, library users will have the choice to generate a receipt when they print or make photocopies inside the Library.  This will be an added convenience for those users who need to keep the receipts for reimbursement or other purposes.  These official receipts contain detailed information about the transaction – date, time, place, item(s) charged, quantity, total amount charged, Octopus card number, etc.

6. The 3D Scanning Service is coming soon!

Bring Design Concepts to Life - The Library launched the 3D Printing Service at the Learning Garden for students and staff in September 2014.  The service aims to inspire students to explore new interest in design and help them to bring their creations and design concepts to life.  We are ready to launch the second phase of making 3D Scanning Service available!

7. How to Publish in Academic Journals – Talk in May 2015

The Library has arranged the talk "Author Strategies for Successful Journal Publication & Latest Trends in Open Access" with the Wiley, one of the world's leading publishers of scholarly journals for researchers and postgraduate students in May 2015.

8. Research Café on 8 May 2015

The fourth Research Café organized by the Library will be held on 8 May (Friday).  The theme will be on "Alternative Politics in Hong Kong".  It will consist of a sharing talk by Prof. KUNG Lap Yan, Associate Professor, Divinity School of Chung Chi College, Department of Cultural and Religious Studies, and presentations from research postgraduate students.  Dr. Benson LEE, Lecturer, The Independent Learning Centre, will provide feedback on student presentation skills.

9. A Gentle Reminder - Returning Books and Paying Fines

Graduating students and leaving staff: Please be reminded to return all your borrowed library items and clear all outstanding fines, if any, before you leave the University.  Your record may be sent to the University authorities if there are any unreturned library items and/or outstanding fines.  Degree Certificates of graduates with outstanding debts to the University will be withheld until the accounts have been settled.
