A Decision without Regret
Making new friends with the Portuguese PhD couple during Queens' College formal dinner
'Coming to Cambridge to pursue a master's degree in cultural studies right after my bachelor in Global Business Studies surprises many of my friends' Cynthia Ng remarked. She is the first recipient of Ho Tim Foundation Scholarships at Hughes Hall which is a full award for S.H. Ho College graduates who are enrolled in a Master's degree in any subject at Hughes Hall at The University of Cambridge. 'It seems to be unrelated to what I have been doing and my career pursuit in finance industry. For me, it is a journey I embark solely following my passion.'

City Flâneurs
Even since the Korean cultural industries policy instituted under the Kim Dae-jung government in the period following the 1997 Asian financial crisis, Korean popular culture has become popular in the East Asian region and deemed a hot destination to tourists. In fact, there is much more to discover in South Korea. On 30 December, 18 SHHO members embarked on their journey to take a kaleidoscopic glimpse into the lives of the dynamic nation. From visiting sites of UNESCO's World Heritage in Gyeongju, strawknitting in a traditional farmhouse to embracing the panoramic view of the Busan port at Haeundae district, trippers sauntered around the two cities as flâneurs.

A Hub which Incubates New Ideas
To many, business startups conjures up elements of high land rent and operating cost which could be a daunting barrier for young entrepreneurs. S.H. Ho College launched the Young Entrepreneur Programme to help College students and alumni realize their entrepreneurial dreams. We have been helping students to cultivate innovative ideas, cultural understanding and care for society. The Programme aims to help young entrepreneurs to incubate their business plans even if they only have small capital to start with,' said Master Samuel Sun. The first winning entrepreneurial project in the programme, Timing Bookstore, has been given a room on the ground floor of Chan Chun Ha Hall to run the University's first independent second-hand bookstore.

Put Yourselves into Others' Suits
Donned in the elderly simulation suits which weigh 14 pounds each, SHHO students immediately experienced the lives of the elderly. Each suit is equipped with lead bars and a strap with buckles at the shoulders and knees. The straps bestow a 'humpback' effect when fastened, causing wearers to stoop. The participants were also given blurry goggles and walking sticks to experience the simulation. The elderly simulation programme, an experiential journey designed by Eldpathy for young people to develop empathy for the elderly, is an activity under Sentimental Grandparent Scheme.

Be a Social Angel
Social entrepreneurs are individuals with innovative business solutions who are altruistic and persistent enough to tackle pressing social problems. Instead of leaving societal needs to the government or charitable organizations, social entrepreneurs generate revenue through business operation and reinvest majority of profit into the community and the underprivileged. According to the annual survey conducted by the HKCSS-HSBC Social Enterprise Business Centre, there are 457 social enterprise units in Hong Kong in 2013-14.

The Courage to Persevere
American Heart Association recommends 150 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic activity—which is about 30 minutes five times per week—for prevention of chronic diseases. Running is one of the healthy aerobic activities. Apart from health benefits, running nurtures perseverance and enhances mental resilience. 37 SHHO runners, among the 2,400 CUHK marathon runners, participated in the 10 km run, half marathon and full marathon in the Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon on 25 January 2015. Their sweat and footprints left in Western Harbour Crossing, Central, Wanchai, Causeway Bay and the Victoria Park.

Highlights of the High Table Dinner
Master Samuel Sun officially presented the College's honorary fellowship appointment certificate to Dr. Rebecca Lee.
Communal dining is part of S.H. Ho College culture best exemplifies 'home' concept, among which a Western-style high table dinner is conducted once a month. While enjoying the culinary delight with elegant garnish, students are offered the opportunity to learn from the speeches of distinguished elites from various sectors invited to such occasions. In the first two months of 2015, students learnt from guest speakers about the extreme climatic change caused by accelerating carbon emission and the way Consumer Council has been endeavouring towards safe and sustainable consumption for consumer betterment. Dr. Rebecca Lee, the internationally acclaimed polar researcher, has been appointed as Honorary Fellow of S.H. Ho College in this formal occasion.

Temperature of Memory
CUHK Alumni Homecoming Day is the largest annual alumni reunion event on campus. Held on 29 November 2014, the event drew close to 5,000 alumni, their families and friends to the campus to recall the good old days. In addition to paying thematic visits to University Gallery, University Library, Art Museum, Chinese Herbal Garden and Jockey Club Museum of Climate Change, alumni were immersed in the joyous atmosphere at the University Mall in the fun-filled carnival among which was S.H. Ho College's game booth. Master Samuel Sun hosted a dinner for the College alumni and their family members at Connexion during which they reminisced about their warm memories.
