Issue 6 04 Mar 2013
From the Editor
Since the release of Newsletter Issue 5 in October 2012, much has happened. The Founding Students have come together and a close and caring community has been established. The students have studied hard, and at the same time they have thrown themselves enthusiastically into a host of activities that round out their education. It is most pleasing to see the promising young people visibly mature and grow in just one semester. As the second semester begins, and as many more activities are launched for students, the College is pleased to share reports of events over the past few months.

A total of 23 mentors have kindly joined the Scheme, to share their life and professional experience. Among the 75 students in Year 1, 33 have joined the Scheme, a very encouraging percentage.

Members of the College were delighted that the foundation work for the College premises was completed in the third quarter of 2012. The superstructure was tendered, and the contractor selected, China Resources, took possession of the site and held a Contract Work Commencement Ceremony on 14 November 2012. Members of the College, including many students, were present at the site together with colleagues from the Campus Development Office and other units. We all look forward to being able to occupy the premises before the start of the second term in 2013–14.

The CUHK 50th Anniversary Kick-off Ceremony ‧ Walkathon and Carnival
In 2013, CUHK celebrates its 50th Anniversary.  The kick-off event for the year-long celebration was a Walkathon held on Sunday 27 January 2013.  College teachers, staff and many students — nearly half of all students in the College, surely a record in percentage participation — took part in the Walkathon.  The CW Chu team chose the longer route, which went past the College premises now under construction.  Four College students took part in the inter-collegiate lion and dragon dance performance, and Mr Chan Ka Ki had the honour of leading the dragon dance.
