The 3rd Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) Academicians Visit Programme was staged at the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) from 2 to 6 February.  The delegation of CAS comprised Prof. Li Wei, Professor of Beihang University and Director of State Key Laboratory of Software Development Environment; Prof. Guo Lei, President of Academy of Mathematics and Systems Science; Prof. Chen Hanfu of Academy of Mathematics and Systems Science; Prof. Guo Guangcan, Professor of University of Science and Technology of China and Director of Key Laboratory of Quantum Information; Prof. Zhang Bo, Professor of Computer Science and Technology Department, Tsinghua University; Prof. Chu Junhao of Shanghai Institute of Technical Physics of CAS, Mr. Zhang Xinggen, Director of Hong Kong, Macao & Taiwan Affairs Office of CAS; and Ms Hu Jun from Division Office of Information Technical Sciences & Technological Sciences of CAS.

Prof. Wang Guangtao, Member of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress of PRC and Chairman of the Environmental Protection and Resources Conservation Committee, led a delegation to visit the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) from 2 to 5 February for academic exchange. Prof. Lawrence J. Lau, Vice-Chancellor; Prof. Joseph Sung, Vice-Chancellor-Designate; Prof. Benjamin Wah, Provost;  Prof. Kenneth Young, Pro-Vice-Chancellor; and Prof. Xu Yangsheng, Associate-Pro-Vice-Chancellor welcomed the delegation.

A delegation led by Prof. Hu Jun, President of Jinan University, visited the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) on 7 January to strengthen links and learn about recent development of CUHK. Members of the delegation consisted of Prof. Liu Jiesheng, Vice-President of Jinan University and other senior members from administration and security units.

A 40-member delegation from Beijing Normal University (BNU) visited the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) from 25 to 26 January for academic exchange. The delegation was led by Prof. Tang Wei, Deputy Secretary of Communist Party of China in BNU.

A delegation from Tsinghua University headed by Professor Wu Yunxin, Deputy Director of Office of International Cooperation and Exchange and Director of Foreign Student Affairs Office, visited the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) on 28 January.

The Division of Health Improvement, School of Public Health and Primary Care of the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), in collaboration with the United Kingdom's National Social Marketing Centre, organized a training workshop on social marketing during 7-11 December 2009 in Chengdu, Sichuan, China. The train-the trainer workshop was funded by the Department for International Development of the United Kingdom, aiming at improving the effectiveness of HIV prevention work in China through social marketing. Key officers from the National Institute of Health Education, 7 provincial Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDCs), teaching staff from Sichuan University, Nanjing Medical University, Sun Yat-Sen University and Central South University, as well as members from key Non-governmental Organisations (NGOs) and end users of preventive services participated in the workshop. Participants were excited about the training and the feedback was extremely positive – the overall score was around 4.7 out of 5.

The Inauguration Ceremony of School of Public Health and Primary Care (SPHPC) of the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) was held on 30 November 2009. On the same day, SPHPC jointly organized the Asia Conference on Emerging Issues in Public Health with the Chinese National Consortium for Public Health Education for Non-Public Health Undergraduates. The conference was held from 30 November to 2 December.
